The Mighty Eighth Official Teaser

Looks really good. Can’t wait for it to come out!

Hmmmmmm… It has potential… But at 25,000’ AGL, they should all be on oxygen…

Looks like a cross between “Memphis Belle” and “Red Tails.” Hard to tell whether it’s worth watching or not.

I’ve got the same criticism of the special effects that I have with “Red Tails”: far too many aircraft crammed into one frame - with forced perspective. And the shot of one B-17 pancaking on top of another one is ridiculous.

On the other hand, any movie that draws the attention of young audiences to the deeds of the Greatest Generation has a lot to commend it. I’ll withhold judgment.

I have been reading up on this trailer. Apparently it is only a demo reel being used to pitch the film to the studios and no actual movie has been made yet. This is internal Hollywood stuff that somehow went public.

And that’s why it was a teaser clip.

I saw that bit with the B-17 pancaking atop of another. Makes you wonder if that’s even possible during a bombing run. Who knows. It could be very well be an eyewitness account.

Yeah, the CGI looks fakey but then again if it’s a demo reel it’s not an issue. On the other hand I know the bombers flew in large formations but this seems a little too much. Seems they’re getting into the same area as Lucas on ‘Revenge of the Sith’ with throwing zillions of ships/planes at the screen at one time. And those German fighters, were there that many fighters in the whole darn Luftwaffe at that point in the war? And yes that pancaking looks really fake, it may have happened but it looks bad on the screen.

Anyway after all my whining if it is made I’ll probably go see it. I just don’t expect it to replace ‘Twelve O’Clock High’ though.

Perhaps that’s the problem with most modern films. They rely too much on “gimmickry” and not enough on story.

“10 Luftwaffe fighters is not enough! Let’s give 'em 100! It looks so cool on camera!”

They forget the story of 10 men attacking a bomber formation that is an act of bravery in itself.

Just my dime.

Well said GAF. 100 German fighters flying head on straight into a bomber formation? Too gimmickly and Hollywoodsy to be honest. The only time I’ve read anything about mass formations of fighters or comes close is The Big Wing during the Battle of Britain. A move that was criticized and never deployed again during the war.

In a single raid, 100 may attack from the front. But not all at once. At most a squadron or two at any one time
