I have, for the past 12 hours, been staring down at my dining table. On this table are two open model boxes containing 1/48 scale kits. On the left is the Hi Tech Voisin 10 LAR WW I Night Bomber. On the right is the Fonderie Miniature Halifax. (A monstrous size in this scale, my scale.)
While I was whining so childishly about my upcoming build of the old Eduard all-PE Strip-Down kit, these two witches had not yet flitted through my window. I will not say anything specific about these kits unless asked, because they were kindly comped to me. I will only say that it will take a much better modeler than I to make silk purses from these porcine aural flaps. In fact, when the prices of these two kits are added together, it comes to a figure that would allow you to go down to the nearest Hermes boutique and buy the woman in your life something nice. Then she can have something very expensive and French and will enjoy it more than I imagine I shall thrill to cracking off 1/32" flash from this gigantic fuselage and wings.
I wanna go back to my little Eduard P-400 with the nekkid ladies on it. Waaaa!
TOM
So you don’t like them, then?
Might I suggest you go get a drink (preferably alcoholic), which might help you to decide which sow’s ear to begin converting to a silk purse first ![]()
Don’t feel bad Tom.
I just picked up Amodel’s 1/72 Yakovlev Yak-38 Forger.
Thats is some very densely packed limited run sprues, somewhat unclear instructions and a barely passable decal sheet.
She’s a right flash farm on the sprue, but as she’s the only game in town for an accurate Yak-38, I’ll find a way to make her work. I’m in it for the long haul though, I can tell you that for sure.
At least you have subjects with a good amount of research material available on them, I’ve found a few things here and there on the net, but its pretty vague stuff. The only clear pictures I’ve found of Forgers are retired examples in museums that the weather has taken a toll on.
Good luck on your sow ears, and if you feel the inclination to vetch about French made models, at least you’re not working with a Mach 2 or Battle Axe kit! [;)]
You’ve got that right, Kevan! [:o] The only difference between a Mach2 kit and a Scratch Built project, is the Mach2 kit comes in a box with a picture on it! [:o][:D]
Tom; wrap them up and you’ll be two gifts ahead on your Christmas shopping! [;)] Then, whomever you give them to, will do the same thing, and on and on… kinda like Fruitcake! [;)] [:D] [B)]
Take care and good luck,
Frank
Don’t worry. There’s a perfectionist in each of us modelers. Deep down inside us, we all always think what we do is “not good enough”… but you know what? Stop being so hard on yourself! The point of our hobby is to have fun, not slapping ourselves silly about how we could make something “as good as that showstopper on the FSM gallery”. Have fun! At the end of the day, it’s all about you and how much you like your work.
I look at my models and I always think they’ll never win any awards, but I like them anyway. [:)]
So what your saying is the kit is true to life version of the real Forger, which is something of a mess.
First of all.make sure that you know what you are getting into.Limited-run kits are not up to today’s standards of fit .They can, however ,with a bit of work produce outstanding replicas if you adjust your mindset.Do not expect them to just fall together like a Tamiya or Hasegawa kit.plus I recommend that you work on one kit at a time to avoid additional confusion and frustation. After you get a couple of these kits under your belt, you will have the skills and expierence to tackle just about any limited-run kit with confidence.
Have you considered leaving out milk and cookies? Then maybe the little people will build them for you.
[(-D][(-D][(-D]
Is that the same “little people” that seem to always make away with pieces and parts that fall off my desk? [:0][}:)][:D] I reckon they have enough of them to do a pretty decent scratch build on their own! [B)][8D]
Take care,
Frank
Tom,
While you are waxing poetic, “much ado about nothing” in my opinion, consider the fact that you paid only the amount that the kits are worth, and not one shilling more! To build, or not to build, that is the question?
It could be worse. You could be sitting there with nothing to build and have no choice other than to talk to your wife!
