the m-10 cyclops little brother the m-110 a1 thunderbolt (lots wip)

well since my fishing trip was rained out this was started late friday afternoon. so far another pretty quick build for me with out an major problems so far. all thats really left to do is add the rear spade and a few small parts along with the roadwheels and tracks which i really hate doing. so here is the little brother of the m-107.

nice start, how do the tracks look?

I gotta get one of those mats[swg]

well here’s this round of pics before the disamblely and taken out to the paintbooth for painting. dostacos the tracks are going to be the last thin i do i just hate doing them. these tracks are the old hard ugly vinly type i wish i could find some nice repleacments for them. as for the green matt its a life saver you can find at any arts and craft store. i got mine from micales with thier 50% coupon sale days.

I was thinking of building that kit would you recomend it.

yes i would. its a very easy kit to do. just watch the barrles thier are some very nasty gaps at the end of them. but the clean up very nicley with super gule and a accelerator with lots of sanding afterwards. the only problems i had were the back ends were the spade attaches to it but thats it. other than that a very easy build.

oppss sorry for the double post

Looking good so far. How did the M107 turn out? I missed the finished product.

There was a set of resin tracks for the M110 series of howitzers. They were made by SP Designs. I’m not sure they are still available though.

On a side note, the M110 is actually the M107’s big brother caliber wise. The m107 was 175mm, while the M110 was 204mm.

GA

The resin tracks are still available, I just bought a set for my M110s on the shelf.

Was also wondering how the M107 turned out???

As for Heavy…my younger brother is correct if you look only at caliber…The M107 had a greater range which was only matched by the M110A2. But the M107 had the longest barrel. Lastly, since the 175mm barrel and 8" barrel were interchangable, maybe they we just twins…not identical, but twins. Both were great weapons!!

its still in the works to. i went ahead and stared this one since it rained all weekend long. and thanks for the history lesson i sit corrected.

were did you get the resin tracks form redleg and how much they cost. i am abouto put in a huge order in with my new found hobby supplier. as for the m-107 see my post on my frist piece of armor in 5 years thats were i am at with that one.

OK…Here is an old post where Heavy, Rob G and I give info on the M107 and M110 including where to get tracks

Hope this helps.

Rounds Complete!!

thanks for the links on were to get tracks from. i will get his last 3 if he has them still has them in stock. one more question for either of you. is their a model of the m-110-a2 the one with the other type of barrel that way i can complete the family. or do you know were i can get just the barrel and i will get another kit of either the m-107 or m-110 . thanks for all the help heavyarty and redleg

Italeri also made the M110A2. Revell of Germany reboxed it as an M110A2G with a new sprue of German-specific parts and the incorrect German Diehl tracks (Italeri M109 tracks since they look “kinda” like them). The tracks didn’t fit either.

For just a barrel, Verlinden used to make an M110A2 conversion set with barrel, but it is long OOP. The Barrel Depot has an M110A2 barrel with muzzlebrake listed too.

Good luck.

Heavy has given you the low down. There was also a M110 with the short barrel made by Italeri.

So as a recap, if you wanted the whole series, Italeri made 4 kits, M107, M110, M110A1 and M110A2.

You have the tracks. I happen to like Eduard PE for these kits but you are already into them. The M110A2 barrel from Barrel Depot is available (along with a barrel for the M107). Just do a search. I think Mission models had the M110A2 barrel.

OK…Now to finish off…AFV club makes a kit of 155mm and 8 inch rounds and powder canisters. Find a kit of ammo boxes (Academy has a good one). The 50 cal size is right for fuzes.

Lastly the ammunition carrier for these was the M548. Ah…AFV has an M548 kit. It comes with 155mm rounds but you can replace with the 8 inch. You want to get the M548A1 version with covered rear, not the gun truck version.

Hopefully my young brother Heavy ([swg] LOL) and I have not overloaded you. But it looks like its going well. Any other questions just pull the lanyard!!

Rounds Complete!!

you two have not over loaded me any anyways. i thank you for your help. as i have all ready started looking for the m-548. and one last questin. whats really the diffreance between the m-110,m-110a1 and the m-110a2 thanks again for your help along with heavys. also it looks like i have to only find 2 kits the m-110 and m110a2 as i have the other two all readyand all most done.

OK…Here we go

The M110 was the original and essentially a SP version of the M115 towed 8" and it replaced the M43 8" SP howitzer. The mind is old and I am on the road so I can’t refer to my FMs but its range was approx 20 km. The M110A1 had a bunch of upgrades that were suttle, some changes in the rear spade but again suttle. I would get the PE set for the A2 as it will have those suttle changes. The main upgrade was a longer barrel extending the range to 30km.

There were numerous problems with the A1 barrel especially at full charge. So the A2 modification installed a muzzel brake on the long A1 barrel and this solved the problems.

This SP weapon saw service from the early 1960s until Desert Storm. The 8" howitzer was retired from service and somewhat replace by the MLRS.

Hope that gives you the general idea??? Once again, anymore questions just pull the lanyard!!

The M110 had a short barrel. The A1 lengthened the barrel for more range and some of the powertrain was upgraded. The A2 added the muzzle brake to reduce recoil at higher charges and it also allowed a longer range (due to the higher charges). There were also upgrades made to the power plant, tranny, and electronics components. Basically, each was an improvement on the prior version.

Edit: Looks like great minds were thinking alike again and posting at the same time.

Rounds Compete, Bore Clear!!

thanks alot guys you have been very helpfull with all my questions thanks alot rob.

The M110 was good for about 8 1/2 to 9 miles of max range using a charge seven (have no idea if the did a “supercharge eight” for them). The M110a2; I don’t know what the range would be, but I’m guess at 15 miles. I’ve personally seen M107s using a zone three powder charge go well over twenty miles at sea level, and have seen them shoot close to twenty-five miles when shoot from about eight hundred feet above sea level. But of course the 175 rounds are all over the map. Funny thing is the M107 & M110 share the same carriage and gun mount, and the M110 was at one time the most accurate piece of artillary in the free world.
