Amazing job on the ammo crates. Very detailed!!
Well, I’m almost finished with the base. I have to paint and weather the wooden planks, then I can start putting it together, tweak what needs tweaking (adding blade troughs), and weathering what needs weathering, adding any knick-knacks and grounding the figures and equipment to the base. If anyone is interested, I used acrylics, pigments and pastels to paint the base. I’m debating to see if I use some oils for stains on the drums. As always, all comments and critiques are greatly appreciated.
Well this project is done. I made a small error in the title which should have been Magnificent Bastards, but it still gets the word out. This is in honor of one of the best Marine artillery units in Vietnam. FYI, the wooden ammo crates and the 105mm ammo canisters are scratch built. I know Marines wore their flak jackets in 'Nam but the figures were sculpted without them, so I hope not to catch any “flak” regarding their missing jackets. I hope to post more pics if I find suitable background photos. So enjoy these pics and as always all comments and critiques are greatly appreciated.
@TigerII
I love seeing us modelers do figures. Yours look great. I started 2 years ago and am still learning how. Figures done right are NOT easy. Lots of patience and a good magnifying glass and light are essential. Which suits me well. Lol
Fantastic work! The sandbags look great.
Its a great looking scene- plenty going on. The figures are interact well and you have painted them beautifully. Details like the towels on shoulders, the various ammo pieces and the elements that make up the gun position are particularly nice.
Now as some of you know, I can’t leave a diorama with just a white or blue background. So, I was able to find the appropriate photos to help bring my project to life. During my research, I discovered that the firebase this battery was in, was atop of a plateau, where they could rain artillery support when and where it was needed. So, I hope you enjoy the photos.
Very well done! The photo background is the cherry on top.
Great pics - adds context. Really like what you did here overall. The figures are just great
Great job! And your Grunts look terrific . I can never get my figures looking that good.
Great composition on the diorama. So much to look at, and very detailed. Congratulations on a stellar build!
This is a really great scene,those flesh tones look great
Thanks for the comment. But FYI in the Marines, only the infantry is known as grunts.![]()
