So I’m out with the honey today and we drop into a non-chain, local model shop for a look-see. The owner, a nice older fellow, was down on his knees rearranging the merchandise. As we exchange pleasantries, he notes that everything is 20% off marked price. OK, sez I, that’s got my interest… I look at kits while my GF wanders around. The owner jokingly asks my girlfriend to help pass him the stock so he doesn’t have to get up (called her Ladybug too!) and she politely assists him. Owner says that that kindness is worth another 5% off… OK, sez I, that’s got more of my interest… I find a few things and go to purchase my kits and books. Owner asks where I live, and since I live in Virginia and this store is in Tennessee, he decides to knock the tax (9.5%)off as well. And he states that anytime in the future that I shop there that he’ll waive the sales tax.
In the end, I picked up a 1/32 Hasegawa Ju87G Stuka, a 1/32 RoG Ju88A-1 and four Squadron/Signal books for (if my math is right) 34.5% off. Somedays, you just get lucky.
Barry B., you are awesome and I’ll gladly drop my wallet in your store again.
