The Korean War GB - 75th Anniversary

That’s a very kind offer. In fact, 302 is the exact decals that were included in the Academy kit. As the Revell’s decals were all for the Marines, I had planned to do the Academy as a Navy version.

Please don’t send them yet, as I hope the decals will turn up soon. I’m still searching! However, I may have tossed them with some scrap paper while cleaning out.

I know how much decals cost, so I’ll reimburse you for them. In fact, I checked the prices on the Academy F4U-4b and the decals cost about as much as the model! Go figure!

Give me a few days, and if they haven’t turned up by then, I’ll take you up on your offer.

Look for something else and they may turn up. Did you open any other model boxes recently? I’ve found parts for one model inside another’s box.
Corsairs bring me back to Baa Baa Black Sheep (dating myself). I even made a tiny 1/700 Corsair floatplane for fun, and put it on a what-if battleship.

No worries/no cost - I was just going to file them and probably never look at them again. PM me your address if you need them.

The decals have turned up! They were in a Tamiya F4U-1a box (which I thought I had looked in before), but were with some PE for the interior. Now the PE came with the Academy kit though they were for a -1a Corsair. I placed them in the Tamiya box being more appropriate for that version. Guess I accidently put the decals in there too!

Strange how things turn up like that.

@keavdog, Again, thanks for offering the decals! Now I can finish both Corsairs. Oh, and I put them somewhere I know I can find them!

Since I was busy making a M60A3 into a S.L.E.P. model, I missed the start of this GB. But I have begun my next project/diorama, and it’s supposed to be in Korea. I will start my own topic, but if no one minds I’d like to keep you apprised of my developments. So far everything I’ve seen looks really great.

Good news! I’ll file the away - let me know if you need them for some reason.

Finally… FINALLY got the avionics vent to a level I can live with (after 15+ redos since Thanksgiving) and got the clear coat on the F-86!

Next up decals… Hope to be done in a week.

Looking forward to wrapping it up.

Woohoo! Decals are going down beautifully.

I let the Gaalerhi gloss clear coat dry overnight and I’m very pleased to report it didn’t diminish the NMF at all! Next, I went over the entire surface with wet 8000 grit sanding sponges to make it perfectly smooth. And the decals from warbird are molding in like paint. Best I’ve ever used.

I took my time so I have only just gotten started but it is always fun to see the final details showing up after a long build.

Not much to report on the Corsairs. I’m attempting to complete 16 HVAR rockets and various ordnance, but progress is slow. Hope to be finished by end of January, but not holding my breath!

Take care!

I’m right there with you! I might even pull off this weekend.

Rockets are slow and tedious which is the only reason I’m ahead of you, I don’t have any.

Quick update, 6 hours of weathering and decals later… I’m about 1/3 of the way done.

GAF- Where are you located?
I have the Custom Aeronautical Miniatures sheet 48-108 that you can have if you are in the US.

They were difficult as they were quite fragile, I’ve been procrastinating on the one on the fuselage because I’m worried about it.

@Samphoto Nice work on the Sabre! I understand about fragile decals. You might try spraying it with Decal Bonder before applying. Works (sometimes).

@DaSWO Thank you for the offer, but I found the originals and am set.

Just trying to stay warm now. Slowly but surely the Corsairs are coming along.

Take care!

I finally got it finished earlier this week. The only thing that I am missing is the white hand painted Roman numeral 3 (3rd marines). I am going to try some white India ink in a 0 Rapidograph pen.

Great work on the M46, R andy! Do you want me to post one of these photos or wait until you’ve tried the “3” for the Marine designation?
