You know what, that is really smart of you to add that knife to the photo for scale, it really helps.
Looks like you are making nice progress.

Excellent progress so far, John! Can only imagine what it would be like to be stuck in the back of a 4W. Must of been claustrophobic!
Gary
I had to look up what a 4W even was, I had never hear of it by that designation. I didn’t know there was a place in the back for people. You are right, very not okay.
Finally had some time to finish the cleanup and actually start putting CA to resin. A couple ugly seams to work on this long weekend…
Coming along. Guess some puttying and sanding is in your future.
Gary
Tojo72, outstanding work on that Sherman! You made a bland OD paint scheme come "alive"with your color modulation and weathering.
Well thank you I was hoping for the distinctive red face of the “Red Devils” but I botched thd decals, but I was happy with this result, thanjs again
Anthony did a great job on the E8, especially at 1/16 scale. Wonder where he displays it?
Gary
Progress on the Corsairs. The Revell is up on its wheels awaiting the wings to be attached. I’ve forgone any movable parts and just glued everything in place. Easier that way.
The Academy’s wings are not glued yet, just clothespined together to help postion the oil coolers. I’ll attach the upper wings after the parts dry.
Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving!
Gary
Hey all-sorry for not commenting on the great work being posted-traveling to visit family and friends the past couple of weeks. Loving seeing Jeanton’s AD-4W coming together, Samphoto’s F-86-love the NMF finish, Gary’s two Corsairs, Glamdring’s figure ( I still haven’t build a figure yet-looking forward to seeing yours) & Tojo72’s armour- great Sherman & Tiger builds.
I did make some progress today-the Texan was painted a couple of weeks ago & decaled shortly afterwards-

Need do some significant weathering-started with mixing some OD, Neutral Gray & White (saw a build elsewhere using this mixture) and airbrushed a light coat-happy so far-

Subtle lightening-I’m thinking some oil dot filtering might help.
Nice, Bob! I think you’re the first person I’ve seen use Lego blocks to hold parts!
Gary
I’ve been out of town for the last couple of weeks so it was a joy to be home this weekend and get some quality bench time.
Since my last post, I’ve masked and sanded and filled and primed and found more issues and sanded and masked and painted… Etc. You guys know the drill.
NMF, especially one where I’m planning on subtle oxidation/weathering, has proven to be quite the challenge. Just when I think I’m good, I’m not.
Tonight I’ve reached the point of “good enough”.
There are 6 different shades of metal paint on this aircraft (technically 7 when you count the two shades I put down in layers of white aluminum, then a very light coat of aluminum over the top) with the intent of creating a very subtle panel difference look.
Now, I let everything cure for a day and put the first clear coat down. I’m not going to lie, this step scares the heck out of me because I love how the metal came out, and I don’t want it to lose its shine. Eventually, I’m going for an oxidation effect so hopefully it will be subtle and give me the blended look I planned for when I put these different layers down. Right now there is a bit more contrast built into the panels, with the idea that after the gloss layers go down that difference will blend a bit but I don’t know. The darker panels on the side are from some reference photos I found that all looked like that.
It’s all new to me, this is my first time with NMF and it had been quite the adventure.
As always, open the thoughts and ideas.
Looking really clean! you are planning on heavy weathering next? That should look great.
Love the Lego work stand, very creative, cheep and effective.
Gary & Samphoto-Thanks for the encouragement on the Texan. I am going to do some oil dot filtering-after that, we’ll see.
Samphoto-F-86 looks great & I’m looking forward to seeing how you weather your NMF-I’ve got both an F-86 & F-51 ordered that I can use your techniques on-going to try to finish up another commitment and then start one (and maybe finish) of the two before the end of 2025.
I ‘raided’ my son’s Lego’s when I first started hanging out here at FSM many years ago-not the best ‘holder’ but cheap and flexible.
@Samphoto Great job on the NMF! You really put some effort into it.
@bobbaily Some oil dot filter weathering will do wonders. I look forward to it.
This being the holidays, things may slow down a little, but keep at it!

This is where I stand on the two Corsairs. Both are together, minus ordnance and some antenna. The propellers are not glued in, along with canopy’s and wheels.
You can see the difference between models now. The Academy is more beefy, slightly wider and deeper. Looks like I have some puttying and sanding in my future!
Now as to canopy’s, I have a vacuform canopy that came with the Academy model. It seems a better representation of the later Corsairs, but I’m on the fence about using it. And the Revell has this odd indentation at the back which is filled by plastic on the fuselage. Yet, I’ve looked at modern images of -4bs and don’t see any indication of that. What is it? Do I need to look for a replacement, or just accept it and move on? Questions for down the road.
That all folks!
Gary
I always find it interesting the variables between two different manufacturers kits. It isn’t like the dimensions of the F4 aren’t exactly known, right?
I’ve never worked with vacuform but I ordered some for my B-17 that I will someday build because the glass that comes with the kit looks crazy thick and clunky.
Thanks for the encouragement on my F-86, it has been a journey for sure. After looking at it closely today, as I was getting ready to spray clear gloss varnish on it, I find that cant life with two areas that I had deemed “good enough” after all. Sigh…
Thank you, when you get to working on those NMF kits, reach out and I’ll let you know what worked and what didn’t.
Made some progress today-based on some research, I found this pic of a Korean Mosquito (AT-6 Texan) with smoke rockets-in the early days of the war, the rockets were a base creation & installation-probably some standards later in the war, but at the beginning,

Took some rockets & racks from a 1/72 Airfix Typhoon. cut some pieces of aluminum tubing and here’s what we have:

I’m going to repaint the fins gray and do some touch-up..will be the final pieces installed.
Also picked up some mineral spirits and started on the oil wash-
Before oil

Maybe too much oil?

More Legos to minimize spilling..

Final product

Ended up losing some bits of decals-first time. Should be an easy touch-up or some aluminium for replacement panels?
Hope to get the upper done tomorrow.
