Hey gang, I think I’ll get in on this one. I don’t have a subject yet, but since crossovers are allowed, I’m going to see if I have something in the stash that will kill two birds at the same time. I’ll let y’all know as soon as I have a subject.
Now I’m looking for references on the cover - what’s the correct name for the cap the captain is wearing? What color would the underside of the visor be?
Now in the meantime I found out Verlinden got it very wrong in adding the captain bars to the cover - Marines don’t do that. And the EGA (Eagle, Globe & Anchor) is wrong either - it should be “iron on” instead of a metal pin on - so I shaved it off, too. More details in the build thread, here’s the painted cover:
So here’s how the Captain looks like at the moment:
I think I will now try my hand on the “chocolate chip” on the trousers, let’s se how this turns out. Thanks for looking and have a nice day
Sorry I have been letting this stew for a few days, a bad cold and other GB deadlines have been occupying my time. What a way to spend a week of vacation.
I have the roster updated, if I missed anything, let me know.
Right now I have a F-4G planed in 1/72 scale with Spangdahlem (Night Stalker) markings. I only have an Italrie kit in 1/72 so thats the kit unless I come accross something else thats better.
I have been planning on building all the USMC Cobra variants in 1/48. So far I have the -G and the AH-1Z demonstrator (AH-1(4B)W) done. For this GB, I’m going to jump in with a gray camo AH-1J, like one of these, from HMA-773 or 775.
After this, I’ll still need a -T, -W, and -Z, which I happen to already have in the stash. But those are stories for another time…
I’m also going to submit this build as a crossover to the Close Air Support GB and build it alongside a second submission to that GB. The other submission will be a kitbash of Fujimi’s -J and -S to make an Army -G. The -G will be a little more work, but the -J seems like it will be pretty straight forward.
I buckled down and cobbled together some badges this evening, I needed a break from the modeling table. I searched my childhood memories of what was ingrained in my head from the nightly news broadcasts, and I grabbed photos that hit on those memories. The only thing I could not locate was a decent license free photo of the tracers lighting up the sky over Baghdad.
Hello Steve! Thanks a lot for your kind words! And those photos - they sure bring back memories… I was 12 years old then. and those jokes about strike pilots checking out CNN for instant bomb damage assessment on their way back to the carrier…
Anyhow - I tried to do the “cookie dough” or “chocolate chip” or 6-colour desert camouflage and here’s what I got:
I’ll try to take a better photo in the daylight and I’ll work on the shading some more. In the meantime I’d love to have your comments on that - thanks in advance and have a nice day
Pawel, wow, far better than I could achieve. I like your cookie dough paint job.
I was in the Coast Guard in Montana of all places at the time. I was an electronics tech (ET) at a LORAN station which was owned by the FAA. Since the CG ran LORAN stations, there I was. I was in California as an electronics instructor during the second Gulf War.
