First off, sorry, no pics yet. But, I’m still pumped over what I got.
The “Flaming Coffin”, if you didn’t know, is but one of the many colorful nicknames given to the fire-prone He 177. I was able to get the (excellent) 1/72 Revell Germany kit for $10, and what can I say? That’s a [censored] load of plastic for 10 bucks! I plan to build it up as the 75mm-cannon toting A3-R5 (I think) anti-tank version. Only five actual airframes were built, so once again I’m building something not seen to often. Hopefully I can find a good 75mm cannon barrel with a muzzle break to use. I’m really looking forward to this one! [:D]
The Russian Me 163 isn’t a captured example of the German airplane. It’s actually an almost carbon copy by the Soviet Air Force called the BI-1. Exact same premise- a rocket powered short range interceptor sometimes prone to explosions. This particular aircraft was only used on a single operational mission, so something else not too well known. I’m not sure right now if I want to use wheels for landing gear or skis. It’s a short-run kit, and flash is the name of the game, so this one’ll be a bit of a challenge. Compared to the Ju 290Z though,it’s not nearly as bad, so we’ll see. It might be just the thing I need to “cool down”, as it were.
I’ll get pics of both kits ASAP, but until then I hope this’ll do. I’m going to enjoy these two!
Wooooah… here’s to the Fed-Ex man, and the excellent kits he bestowed upon you!! [:)]
Just calm down now… and get your camera out so we can see these gems! [;)] [:)]
Thanks,
Take care,
Frank
In the game IL-2 sturmovik you can fly bot Bi-1 and Me 163… very different planes lemme tell you! same idea tho, and both are a blast to fly!
Sounds like a couple of fun builds. Share some pics when you can.
Regards, Rick
What type of muzzle break are you looking to put on the He-177? There was the type used on the PAK 40 towed anti-tank gun, then the type used on the Panther tank. Personally, I’d go for the PAK 40 type, but as I don’t have any reference on that mark of the He-177, you may have a better idea as to what you require.
mmmmmm… He-177. Just what I’m looking for too. $10!!! The exact same kit is £14 GBPs over here [:(] Can’t wait for your first pics [;)]
Ask and ye shall recieve, or so the saying goes. I was able to crack out the camera this morning and take a few shots.

Ah, the wonderful box art. Just a bit of a size difference, don’t ya think?

And what’s inside. All you see in the off-white belongs to the He 177. The little group of white pieces in the lower right corner? All the BI-1 parts. Once again, quite a bit of a difference.
Not only do I want to find an aftermarket 75mm barrel for the He 177, I may be tempted, perhaps, for a resin engine replacement. Those coupled engines are a bit too unique to pass up showing them off.
Plenty of plastic for your $10! Can we possibly get a close-up of the cockpit parts? [;)]
hope some one is still reading this topic
there is a 75mm aluminium barrel from jadar models
the item is produced by airmoand is almost perfect as there is no breech block or recoil mechanism as these would seen in the 177,these apparently were used to take pot shots at russian tanks laying seige to stalingrad as 177s were used as supply planes
