The end of a 30+ year Hiatis

Greetings,

It’s finally time to say hi… Well, as far as the 30 year break, like many 9 - 13 year olds I was a modeling fool. My bedroom ceiling was covered in plastic airplanes that were built on an assembly line. Lots of Testers glue, no paint, misplaced decals and in hindsight they really looked very sad. (Several are still a few in my parent’s attic.) By 1977 I actually made a few simple armor dioramas but alas, my calling was RC Soaring and that is where I am still today. This past fall, I started googling some of the old kits that I thought would be fun to build. Wow, what an eye opener. Lindberg Line, MPC / General Mills, Hawk, Aurora all a figment of my adolescent imagination. What’s up with Revell and Monogram as a single company, wow!!! A quick stop at the LHS gave me the simple answer. Detail, detail, detail and again, detail. My interest was heightened, and I left there with an Academy P-40E in 72nd scale. I’ve learned a lot reading these forums along with the plethora of other information on the web. Swanny’s DVD’s were worth the investment and now several months later, the Warhawk is nearing completion. I’ve applied the future, and decal placement can’t be far behind.

I’ve really enjoyed the build and an added side effect has been helping my serious lack of patience. I’ve learned a lot and there is even a mini-stash building up in the closet. The tool box is nearly full now and my airbrushing skills are better than I could have ever imagined. Keep in mind, there is still a lot of room for improvement. (A special thanks to Badger and the great deal on the 360 in their garage sale.) With luck and a little time I’ll be posting some finished pictures of my P-40E. Thanks for all the help, and I do look forward to a continued 2nd hobby.

Cheers,

David from Dayton

PS. I forgot to mention I still have the instructions for all my old kits. The old pilot figures are still classic, they all looked like they were trying to hold their little plastic bladders… [:D]

Welcome to the Forums David & welcome back to the hobby [#welcome]. Looking forward to seeing your P-40.

Regards, Rick

Nice to have you back, David! Welcome aboard! [#welcome]

Hello and [#welcome]! David!

The hobby has gotten a bit more expensive over the years, no?[(-D]

& …Harv

Don’t throw either away. I find myself sending copies to fellow modelers all the time. Figures, yeah they look like someone castrated them, but they too are valuable resources for bartering. I’ve had several people pick through my stash looking for suitable figures for their projects.

Welcome to the insanity…and the children who usually get along with other most of the time. When we don’t play nice…well Matt & Aaron smack us around a bit…spare the sprue and spoil the modeler…or something like that.
