The Eagles Will Fly!

With my apologies to the Armor guys who’s company I keep the most; I shall release my flock of Eagles for my 1000th post.

Yes, these are most of my F-15 Eagles that I have built. All were built more than 15 years ago. I’m trying to see if the yellowing on the decals will go away if I keep the model in the window under the sun for a day or so. Right after I put it in the window to be ‘bleached’ clean by the sun, we got three days of solid rain! [B)] Anyway, I have only one more Eagle to do: an F-15J from the Japanese Air Self Defense Force.

So, without further ado, here are my Eagles!

This first one is from my favorite AF fighter wing, especially since I used to live in Fort Walton Beach next to Eglin AFB. I used to watch with undisguised glee as the Eagles from that unit screamed overhead. This is one of those aircraft from the 33rd TFW based at Eglin:

This next one is also from the 33rd TFW. This is the wing Commander’s plane in which he shot down four Iraqi aircraft during Operation Desert Storm. Three of the four kill markings are on it:

I have an earlier model of the same plane, with the absolutely wrong colors used, but then I’d built it more than 24 years ago and used the only paints I had available at the time! I have to get a picture of it later when I get new batteries for the camera.

Moving along, here is the F-15E Strike Eagle I got as part of a four-plane model kit set put out by Revell/Monogram. It was the first time I’d bought a model from Sears!

Here are two of my International Eagles. This first one is my Israeli F-15C complete with kill markings earned over the Bekaa valley in the great Syrian Turkey Shoot.

Yeah, I know the eagles on the tail are wrong, but I’d lost the ones that were supposed to go there. [B)][:I]

Next is my Saudi Arabian F-15C Eagle. Bit if trivia on this model: I’d painted it in a tan/brown/green/ camo pattern. Then I’d seen a pic of one in Air Superiority grey, and repainted it. Fortunately I hadn’t put the decals on it yet!

Someday, I’d like to see what the kill markings look like on the Saudi plane that shot down two Iraqi’s during the First Gulf War. It would be nice to possibly put them on this one.

More trivia about Eagles in general:

The plane made the Guiness Book of World records for having a perfect combat record: 100% kills with no losses to enemy action! Now that’s a true Air Superiority fighter! [8D]

Anyway, I hope you enjoy my 1K post showing my flock of Eagles. As always, comments are welcome!

looks great! I have a F15 waiting in my stash to build too, hope it can turn out as well as your builds.

Thanks wai!

After looking at your cockpits that were posted in another thread, I have no doubt yours wil surpass mine! I am honored at your kind words.

I look forward to seeing pics of your Eagle.

Now I gotta go build my Japanese one!

I read about that Syrian turkey shoot thing… shesh, you’d think they’d teach their pilots how to fly!

Nice planes, I have the 33rd TFW plane on my to do list for this year (Hasagawa kit with decals from the Tamiya release) Seeing your kit has given me a boost to get it started.

Phil

Very nice builds. Thanks for sharing.

Regards, Rick

Yeah thats great Maddog… I am about to start my Japanese F-15 also… There is a picture of the one that I want to do at this link… It is the 9th one down… I like the grey with white scheme…

p.s… You know, I am starting to think I am the only one that cant put pics up here… I have done what everyone has done, and even hosted them at the newfsm page, and then tried doing it on both my work computer and home computer with no luck… All I get are broken image signs… Blaaaahhhhh…

Chris in Japan

darn and no Eagles from the 1st TFW but I got the Hasegawa and Tamiya F-15C’s and am doing both as Langley Eagles.

Great looking Eagles mate, it’s a shame the decals have yellowed, but they still look good anyway. Thanks for sharing more of your collection.

Is the 33 FW Eagle a four mig killer? I know there were several pilots that scored two kills but none scored more than two. There was some talk of a pilot scoring three but the third could not be verified. In fact intel showed no enemy aircraft being destroyed that day, only an A-10 being lost to unknown causes.

Very good looking Fleagles though.

Nice looking builds there,Duke.[tup] I really like that “lizzard”. Makes for a nice change from the gray. Thanks for sharing with us!

the eagles are out in force. great stuff.

Great Eagles…thanks for sharing your builds.

Thank you everyone for the great comments! It feels good to show photos to others who appreciate my work. Granted some of these are so old that they still show their poor workmanship, but hey—I built them! Yeah! [:D]

I agree! And since I’ve heard about, and seen pics of an F-15E Strike Eagle in Israeli markings, that’s gonna be one of my next projects coming up!

Thanks Berny!

My info is a bit outdated, but I had read that the 33rd TFW’s commander had shot down four Iraqi aircraft. They were listed as 2 MiG 29’s, one MiG 27, and a MiG 21.Three were shot down while he was in the plane pictured, the fourth was in a different plane since the one pictured was down for maintenance that day. Again I’m going by a 14-year-old memory, so I may not be accurate, and the info may have been adjusted based in further research into events. I do remember that the model I built came out just after the first Gulf War to commemorate the plane with the most air-to-air kills and I felt so lucky to get it. Well, even if it is fictitious, it looks so cool having three flags on it! Thaqnks for pointing that out though.
