The Duke Finishes Three More Braille Scale Armor Models

That’s right, the Duke here has finished some more armor in 1/72 scale. This post includes the Tiger I Mid Production that I’d been having so much trouble with, as well as one tank I’d been wanting for a long while!

Okay to start out, here is one I’ve been wanting in my Italian Army for a while. This is my Trumpeter 1/72 scale Italian C-1 Ariete MBT that I built for the Modern Armour Group Build here on these Forums:

Next is one of my two Matchbox/RevellAG reboxes of the 1/76 scale M-7 Priests I’ve been working on. The first one was my Israeli one that I finished some weeks before. This is my latest one done up in British markings:

The decals aren’t silvered. That is residual left over from the wax paper that had stuck to the decals in the box. Why everyone always has to pack decals with wax paper is beyond me!

Finally, here is the Dragon 1/72 scale German Tiger I Mid production tank that I’d been working on for awhile. This took me awhile because I lost the tracks and I wasn’t looking forward to painting that pattern on it! Well, the tracks were all found, and the pattern is painted on:

Well, that’s all for now. Some more stalled projects are finished and I have space on the bench to get finished with more.

Thanks for looking and comments are welcome.

hej duke, verry nice build’s and what a pain to make that tiger camo, i know from experience that it’s one hell of a job.

how did you do the camo? with putty?

one thing that pop’s out on the pic’s is the seam on the left track of the m-7, but i can’t blame you for that, those old tracks just don’t go pretty together [banghead]

Thanks Robbio. The camo was done freehand, no mask or sillyputty. That’s one of the reasons I was dreading doing it!

And yeah, I saw that seam too, but as you said, what can you do? As it is, I use this Gorilla Glue to fasten them together and it tends to expand a bit as it dries. I try to trim them down but hey, you do what you gotta do to finish.

Thanks for looking Robbio and thanks for the comments!

I really dig the camo on the Tiger. Was that done free-hand with a bristle-brush?

That camo has to be eye-crossing work, especially in that scale. Came out Great![tup]

Nice work as usual Duke. Well done!!

Regards, Rick

Hey Duke, they all look really nice! Its good to see some more 1/72 stuff on this site again!

The Ariete and Tiger are superb! Gorgeous paint on that Tiger! Wow, freehand huh?! Tha’s some sharp painting!

The Priest is decent too, but perhaps some precise pin washes and a little bit o’ drybrushing with a tan color would bring a bit of life out of that drab OD finish? A razor blade coyld trim down that nasty glue blob, dontcha think? And maybe a little bit of appropriate paint could camoflage it a bit?

Keep posting 'em! I’d love to see more! [:D]

Looks great Duke! That freehand camo is amazing–great job!

I know others post braille, but you are the flagbearer for 1/72. LOL It’s always interesting stuff you have and your collection must be over the top, but fortunately it doesn’t suck up to much space. LOL I concure on the marvelous camo job on the Tiger. i couldn’t imagine spraying that pattern, even on 1/35. [B)]

Duke

The German items look good (I’m not a “germahaloic”). There are others on this site more qualified to give you comments on those like Doog [oX)]

The M7 needs a little something. [zzz] The interior looks like it is OOB with no paint. Try a graphite pencil on the edege sufaces to show some ware. As Doog said, some pin washes would bring up the details. Drybrush some areas for some dirt and rust around the tracks.

My end is US items and plain OD is difficult. You need to work with washes, drybrush and I also like pastel dust to give highlights and bring out details. I’m no expert at it but I’ve gotton better in the past few years (I think!). Keep at it. Life is not all zimm [swg]

Overall your looking good. Keep doing, it will keep getting better. The most important thing is to have fun. [tup]

Rounds Complete!!

Yes it was. That’s partly why I waited so long to finish the Tiger. I was dreading that paint job, but wanted it to look good. Finally I just bit the bullet and went to work on it.

DHM, Rick and Townsy, thank you very much. I appreciate your comments.

Tigerman, you honor me. Thank you very much for those comments. I really do appreciate them alot! It seems you’ve been around looking at all my work for a lot longer than anyone so far, except Rick. My collection is pretty well over the top. These completed models puts me above 520 completed Braille Scale armor kits but like you said, they don’t take up much room at all!

Doog, thank you very much for the great comments as well as the compliment on my Tiger’s camo pattern. Redleg, I also thank you for your great comments. Excellent constructive critique on my Priest from both of you. Redleg, I agree, in these pics the interior does look unpainted, but it isn’t. I took care to spraypaint the interior even before I painted the outside. I also did drybrush some silver inside where boots and shells would have scuffed it, but that didn’t show in the pics either. You are right though, it still looks way too clean in there. To both of you Doog and Redleg, thank you for pointing out the lack of a pinwash. I totally forgot about applying one! And thanks Doog for pointing out the big glue blob. That is huge; I can’t see how I missed that! Definitely will fix that quick! Also, I did do a light overspray of a light tan overall on the Priest but it doesn’t show well either. I gotta learn to take some better pics too. Still, this model could use a bit more drybrushing of light tan on some areas. I’ll be working on that too.

Thanks again for all the great comments and compliments on my work. I very much appreciate all of you for posting.

Very nice work, especially on the Tiger.

The older vinyl trackers are indeed shockers and I agree with the doog that a little adroit slicing with a scalpel will really go a long way to minimising the join visually.

cheers

Mike

Thanks Mike for the compliments. I’ll be working on that when I start on the other issues with this kit. I do appreciate your great feedback, keep it coming!

Hey Duke good to see another 72er postin work. I should post some of my Tiger (avatar) although Im afraid it might scare people off, first time with link tracks, first time brush painting freehand camo, first time with washes and weathering, oh and SECOND armour model ever lol. Ive gotten a bit more under my belt since then.

I really like the camo on the tiger though, its really well done and smooth looking. What kinda paints are you using? And did you thin them much before freehanding the camo?

Duke Maddog,

Good builds! [tup][tup][tup] Looks like you are having to much fun putting together these really cool kits! Like the camo jobs! keep building and posting!

-Eddy

I’d say post it! I think you’d get quite a bit of good feedback like I did. Besides, it’s great sometimes to post ‘before and after’ kinds of photos once in awhile! As for my paints, I did thin them a little to insure a smooth application. I used the Testor’s Model Master paints too. Thanks for the compliment.

Eddy, thank you also for the compliment! I am having a blast building these small tanks!

Those are VERY nice builds, 72…even nicer! I had to put away the 72s I was planning on doing for the Modern Armor GB and re-start the basics… yep… Tamiya oldie 1:35 T34  I will then tackle the 72s… I will save these pics for future reference! Excellent work…

Thanks JMart! I appreciate the compliments and also I am honored that you’d save pics of my work. Good luck on your latest build.
