The Dragon Slayer comes together

Okay, it’s really a shameless plug for this weeks update on my site. I’m working on the Nichimo Ki-45 Kai Dragon Slayer, Allied code name “Nick” in 1/48

This is really a very nice kit. I can see why it was referred to as the Cadillac of kits in its day. Everything fits very well and its well engineered. I added seatbelts and brake lines but otherwise she is pretty much out-of-box.

Nice Swanny![8D] Kind of looks like a streamlined version of the JU-88, a little bit.

Reminds me more of a Me-110

Yep…you’re right.[:D] Think the Japanese did some collaborating with the Germans on this one?

I don’t think so, the Ki-45 Kai is a 1940 design so it’s a bit early to have received German influence. This did happen on a number of later designs though. The Ki-61 (Bf-109 influences), “Kikka” (Me-262) and J8M1 Shuisui (?) (Me-163) come to mind. By the way: it’s looking really good for such an old model Swanny. I’d like to see how those rivets will look under a coat of paint [8D]. At the rate you’re going we should be seeing pics of that by tonight, right?[;)][:D]

didnt you just get this thing in the mail 2weeks ago? looks great though.

Looking great as usual as always Swanny.[tup][tup]

Is the plastic really pink or is that an effect of the camera and the internet?

It looks like it’s coming together nicely. How are you going to paint this one Swanny?

Sharp Toryu, Swanny!

swanny very nice.

Looking good there Swanny.

I can remember ogling that kit as a kid in my LHS, but I could never afford it.

Can’t wait to see it finished.

if you turn your head sideways and imagine a bit it looks like a pigs nose - probably cos the color is a bit weird. then u realise that its a great looking kit in progress ! great stuff looking forward to seeing it done !
