Place looks better than my spares box…
I went TDY to Fort Huachuca (about an hour south of Tuscon) back in 1996. One weekend when we went up to Tuscon, we decided to check it out on a whim. I think we had to pop onto DM AFB for something and it sparked our curiousity. At the time if you had a military ID you could drive through the boneyard with no problems (the SPs didn’t seem to mind, we passed a few on patrol who didn’t give us a second look). So we got to spend a couple of hours driving around and looking at all of the shrinkwrapped and unshrinkwrapped aircraft. Really interesting seeing the piles of B-52 fuselages and wings they had out, available for treaty verification satellite viewing if I remember right. There were also a lot of old '60s and '50s planes and helos as well. Really wished I’d had a camera that day, but such a cool experience.

I really need to take a tour of the Bone Yard sometime. It’s only about an hour’s drive away from me. It’s just been too hot lately and the monsoon season is starting this weekend it appears. Maybe I’ll take a trip later this year as the Pima Air and Space Museum offers a day long tour.
It’s really something to see the Bone Yard when you drive passed it just lines and lines of aircraft.
