The doog here, from over in Armor…my Dad sent me this link of the Blue Angels at some air show–there are some really amazing shots here farther down the page. It’s unreal-the Blue Angels flying over a bunch of boats at literally 20 feet over the water. I think one of the boats was actually sunk by the jet wash or whatever you call it?
Those are some really good shots! I imagine that would be the coolest airshow to ever see, and it’s times like this when I lived closer to the San Fransisco area.
Those 20 ft sneak pass pictures are really awesome. But it just seems more unique and interesting against the Alcatraz/Golden Gate Bridge/Fort Point back drop! I’m amazed that the weather was beautiful too, since every time I was there, it was always overcast…
My mother knew someone who did a stunt like that once.
She was stationed in Buford South Carolina with the marine corps as an electronics technician for F-4’s and A-4’s. A man they called “Captain Troll” was famous for a stunt he pulled at that base. Apparently, he took a TA-4J and flew it inverted under a bridge! This guy was the real Pete “Maverick” Mitchell!
Cool shots, I never get tired of watching the Angels fly. I think the first time that I saw them was at Richards Gebauer AFB in Grandview,Mo. in the “60’s”, and they flying F-4 Phantom’s.
I’ve had the good fortune to have seen the Angels fly since 1956 when I was two years old. They were flying F9F Panthers when I first saw them (I barely remember this, my dad had pictures of me in front of them on the flight line), then F11F Tigers (both short and long nose versions), F-4 Phantoms, A-4 Skyhawks and the present F/A-18s. I was stationed on the USS Lexington from 1975-1976. The Lex was the training carrier in the Gulf of Mexico and was the ship that the Blue Angels pilots kept their carrier qualifications current. They were flying Skyhawks then and would really give us a good show as they were not under such strict controls out over the Gulf. Twenty feet was a pretty routine altitude. But, believe it or not, watching them did get old after a while. You can have too much of a good thing.
Awesome shots… but the doog having a dad, I never thought of that before… always thought that the doog was born from rock and roll and diminished 9 chords played as power chords
VERY cool pics. I’ve seen the Blues a couple of times in Portland, OR. Fat Albert does a JATO (jet assist take-off) at some shows - that’s awesome to see as well.
