The Best Kits?

I’m looking at picking up a 1/72 Tornado to add to my collection of models. I’m new to the hobby and have learned a great deal from this forum as I am getting away from the basics and trying new techniques. I don’t have a lot of spare time, so I haven’t built a lot of kits thus far. Just finished an AMT/ERTL F-15C, and am now working on a Testors F-16C. Which gets to my question… what’s my best bet for a good Tornado kit (or any aircraft kit for that matter) - Revell, Italeri, Hasegawa, Airfix, Tamiya, Matchbox, ESCI, others?.. so many to choose from… your thoughts? Thanks in advance.

For a thoroughly modern and excellent representation of the Panavia Tornado in 1/72 your best bet is Revell-Germany.

A close second are the Hasegawa Tornados from the late 80s or early 90s.

The Italeri 1/72 Tornados still represent fair value for money, but are showing their age these days.

Airfix 1/72 Tornados are said to be good but have buildability issues and are best left to more experienced modelers.

Monogram, and Esci had Tornado kits back in the 80s and I’d advise you to stay well clear of them.

I’m told Revell-Germany’s 1/72 F-14D Tomcat is one of the best going these days as Tomcats are concerned.

As for the companies you mentioned, well everyone has their favorites. Some folks won’t touch Italeri, but I don’t mind their kits. You mentioned you had built an AMT/ERTL kit, I personally won’t touch their products.

If you want an idea of the best representation of a subject, don’t go by the company name, try to find some online reviews of kits and go by that.

Great advice. Thanks upnorth! Looking for a Revell-Germany…

And if you can post some pics, I know everyone would like to see them
