The best flat finish

Hi everyone

I am in search of the absolute best flat finish without using Testors Dullcote.
When I say flat, I mean DEAD flat.
I’ve heard that Future (or Pledge One Go here in Australia) thinned with water works OK.
Does anyone have a good formula I can airbrush?

Thanks
Glen

I use Polly Scale flat. Thinned with Tamiya thinner, the finish is dead flat with no residue. Lots of guys use Future, but I’ve never gotten the kind of results I wanted. I do seem to be in the minority on that one, though.

I use the Polly Scale as well. The only problem I find is a whiteish haze.

I’ve read that Future mixed with Tamiya Flat Base will give you a dead flat finish, although the 1:1 ratio they suggested left a slight white haze over the model I used it on. I’ve played with the ratios a bit but still haven’t come up with the proper mix.

Future will give a flat finish?!? I thought it could be used as a gloss coat?

My understanding is that Future is used for a gloss finish as well. By the way, what’s wrong with Testor’s Dullcote? I have used it for years and it gives the best results, in my opinion.

Gunze’s Mr. Hobby Hobby Color Flat Clear (H20) consistantly gives the absolutely deadest flat finish I’ve ever seen. It’s all I use now!

I also use the Future for both gloss and flat. To get my flat Future, I mix it about 55-45% Futureto Tamiya Flat Base. I’ve gotten some excellent dead flat coatings without the white haze. If I get that, I respray withb gloss Future, then add about 10-15 more drops of Future to the Future/FlatBase mixture.

I’ve heard that Pollyscale works wonders, but I’ve never been able to get any at my LHS.

Polly scale works well for me. But then again so did the future - flat base mixture.I’ll have to try thay Vallejo.

I use Future and Tamiya Flat Base at four parts future to three parts flat base. I’ve used the same products at a 3:1 ratio, but with the higher concentration of flat base, I’d sometimes get the white haze in corners. At a 4:1 ratio, it makes for a flat finish with no hazing.

I’m curious as well. I’ve used Testers dullcoat alot and as long as you don’t go too heavy on the coat it works very well.
