Does anyone know of a sure fire way to apply decals so that you don’t ever see the clear part of the decal after it dries? The only sure fire way I know of is to either paint on the markings, or cut out the film away from the marking, which sometimes isn’t possible with smaller detailed markings. I’ve tried putting on a coat of clear gloss laquer where I want to apply the decal, but this only partially solves the problem. Thanks for your help!
If you get that annoying silvery decal film, try decal setting solution. That stuff is nasty! IT LITTERALLY MELTS THE DECAL ONTO THE MODEL!!![8][:p]
Trim close, apply Future to area where decal is to be located, aplly decal set, apply decal, apply decal sol, apply dull-cote (or gloss-cote), more dull-cote and finally dull-cote. There’s the step by step that I use fairly successfully gendarme, hope thishelps a bit.
P.S. Did I mention dull-cote?
I gloss coat, let that dry 24 hrs minimum, put decal in water for 15-20 seconds, remove it and place it on towel and blot excess water off, cover decal with decal solvent and let that set 30 to 60 seconds, then put coat of decal solvent on area where decal is going. Slide the decal off onto the wet surface. Depending on what type of solvent (usually Super Scale), carefully remove the excess solvent (q tip works great). Let the decal set for a minute or two, then wrap an old t-shirt around my finger and gently press straight down on the decal. Let the decals dry a minimum of 24 hrs then apply top coat. Note: Don’t try to press them on if you are using Walther’s Solvaset, they soften so badly they will become distorted if you do. Also, if you have to move the decal after its in place, use a pointed paint brush loaded with solvent to move it around.
