Thank God for Mineral Spirits! Bv 155 near miss.

Boy did I get off lucky yesterday! My current project, a 1/72 Bv 155 and my first Vacuform, was at the painting stage. I got the primer coat on, with a few defects. I tried to correct them by laying more paint on, and so on and so on until (gasp!) I thought my hard work had all been for naught. Everything started going dark…

Then there was a light from on high- or maybe just a plastic jug of mineral spirits. Thankfully it took off everything with no effect to the plastic underneith. My closest call so far!

This story has a happy ending. The next primer coat went on fine, and so did the next coat of metallic on the undersides. All’s well that ends well, I guess.

God, id hate to see a good Luft 46 kit go to waste :frowning:

You’re fortunate the Mineral Spirits didn’t react with the plastic. Don’t try it with lacquer thinner [:)].

the answer to a defect is never more paint,[:)] you got lucky there.

Yeah! Paint is not a good filler!

Although paint’s not a good filler, it’s fantastic for hiding detail, BUT in its defence, it is also good at sealing filler. A coat or two of paint over a filled area, buffed to a gloss finish stops the filler from “drinking” the next application. Mr Surfacer does the job better & quicker, but if you’re ever with any…
