Tet on the Black River Saigon???

Hi all,
I was wondering how realistic would it be to do a scene on the black river in Saigon (see the top picture on http://www.raphaelk.co.uk/web%20pics/Vietnam/Vietnam.htm). I mean: I would like to do this scene with some kind of boat in it (a LSSC or zodiac or…) but I’m not sure if there was any combat-action on this river (maybe during TET?)
Hope someone can help

I was stationed at Tan Son Nhut, AB just out side of Saigon from June 67-68. I was there during Tet. The river in question would have been too narrow and shallow in the city for any large type of boat. There were many small foot and vehicle bridges over the river which were very low. In some parts of the city, you could jump over the river with a good running start.

Hi Berny,
thanks for your help!, I guess I have to do a diorama without the boat, just some gi’s on foot (with a little footbridge maybe). I just can’t resist building this scene.
Since you were there; does this picture represent the situation along the Black River?

TIA

In the shadey part of town, yes. Most GI’s tended to stay from that part of town. Lots of pick pockets, drug dealers, and prostitutes. It was also a suspected VC hide out. As the river got into the inner part of the city, it had more shops and bars catering to the GI’s. Always after the MPC the GI’s spent.
