Testors Modern Desert Sand?

I finally got the Tamiya M1A2 and M2A2. In the past year I built the A1s of each. The Abrams was painted with Tamiya Light Sand and the Bradley I painted with Tamiya Light Olive Drab, I believe. The store didn’t have any Tamiya colors in so I opted for Testors Modern Desert Sand. It looks almost white but I’ve heard people use it. Any opinions?

Oh, and another thing. Any good pictures on where the non-slip surface covers the Abrams? I think I have a good idea on how to replicate it but I don’t know where it goes.

I’ve got some scans of the M1 and M1A1 technical manual that shows where the non-slip coating goes: http://members.aol.com/rgronovius/nonslip.zip

Photos showing the variations of the amount of texture on early and later M1A1 tanks are available via the motor pool link below my signature. Head for the M1 Abrams gallery.

This is a post I put up awhile ago, asking the same question. It might help you out.

Good luck

Go for the marines/us army gulf sand it is perfect

What thundergod said… If you can’t find it though (I never can at my LHS) try adding a little brown, very little, and that darkens it up enough so it will pass…

It’s an exact colour match, and in my opinion nothing looks better, so try to get some of this. THey have it in their Acryl range as well, if you want to use acrylics and not enamels.

thanks, fellas.
