What a frustrating build. I didn’t make the most of my skills on this one, mostly because tag-teaming between raising two toddlers and stealing ten or twenty minutes to work on a model just frags your brain. I had a hell of a time getting into the groove and spending the time this one deserved.
I ended up ditching the bare bones cockpit and painting the inside of the canopy black instead. Sanding and filling went ok. Airbrushing went really badly due I think to the MM Acryl paints I’ve been using. Those are easy to clean up, but I may end up switching back to enamels just because they flow so much easier. Decals went ok and I added a squadron insignia on the tail to dress it up a bit more, and custom nose art from an old Starship Modeler pinup batch. I named 'er True Grit on a whim since the new movie is out, although I haven’t seen it. I did get some silvering, but I had a reaction in the Future while decaling that freaked me out so I quit using that halfway through the process. Then weathering went to hell, again because of the airbrush. To my credit this was my 1st attempt at fading out the paint and I got a little heavy in spots. Meh.
Aahh gotta love children…!! I so know what you mean…!! When my son was younger, I believe I built either when he took naps or when he went to bed lol
Now that he is four, I am able to build more as long as he can play in the area that I am in which is fine by… Let me tell you, it sure is a bonding experience… He has build 3 snap tite models of which one was essentially on his own.
On to your build, even though you mention some of the down falls and short time frames for building, I really like how your F-5 turned out…!!
Actually I like it a lot… It’s a different take instead of the typical wheels dwn on the shelf look… Neat idea!!
Good job. Especially with what Testor’s gave you to work with on that kit. I had a couple of the same kit. Yours definitely came out better. They really need to retool their cockpit on this kit. Nice Camo BTW.
I think the camo looks pretty dang cool! And the in-flight display is neat and shows a lot of imagination. Nice change of pace from wheels on ground or flying straight and level.
Nice job on a kit that is likely older than you are. Thiskit dates back to the Hawk line of the mid 60s. Since you are now raising toddlers, I supspect you do not… LOL! And I do know that you have your hands full! Like the other folks here, I really like your choice of a display stand. You pulled it off quite effectively[Y]
