Has anyone broken down and tried this kit? I saw it in my LHS the other day but did not get it. I want to see if anyone on this forum has used it yet. You still can’t do white yet.
I’ve got one sitting on my desk as we speak. I figured that for $5 and some change (at the local WalMart) if it does not work, it’s not much of a loss. I will let you know how it works if someone does not beat me to it.
Jeff
I din’t know that Testors made a kit like that. I haven’t been to the local LHS lately and sure didn’t see one the last time I went to Walmart. What does the kit consist of?
I’ve looked through it a while back…the disk that comes with the kit at any Wal-Mart is the basic version and only has a few examples that you can print off. To get the advanced program, you have to order it from Testors. [#dots] . o O (go figure…)
There are ways around the program, to get images other than the ones supplied with it,
But I did order the full version.
Its a very nice kit. worth the money for the full version.
I just used it to modify the instrument panel on a Cessna I’m building.
I scanned the decals, then altered the colors in Coral Paint, imported them back into Testors and printed.
The decal came out better then the original.
Let’s see…
There is a mini-disc with the program.
A sheet (8.5 x 5.5) of clear inkjet decal paper.
A 3oz. spray can of Decal Bonder (#9200)
And finally a set of instructions.
As I think someone else may already have said, you can do the same thing with a plain graphics program and decal paper purchased on your own - except maybe for the software (which I have not loaded yet).
Iroc:
What more did you get with the full version?
-Jeff
A few more graphics,
The ability to import any graphic.(like I said you can get around this with the trial version but in the full you can pull it in and scale it in program)
Tech support.
I’d just order the full version from Testors right off, not even mess with the trial at Wal-Mart.
Hi all,
I got the Testors Decal Making Kit from Wal-mart and it works just fine. I have Photoshop, Freehand, and PageMaker, so I simply printed from those programs.
I did find that the decals need a light-colored background to show up well.
Do a forum search for “Testors Decal” or something similar and you’ll see a whole bunch of threads on this topic.
