Temporary door/panel attachment

Modelers, can anyone suggest a method for attaching access panels etc to a fuselage on a temporary basis? I’d like to have them attached during painting. I had planned to use silly putty but the stuff doesn’t appear to be sticky enough for that. Another idea would be white glue. But I can’t help but think that that would be a pain to clean up. I also fear it would flow to the outside, get painted and then cover plastic that should have been painted with the rest of the aircraft.

How do you guys handle this situation?

White glue will work, just a dot in each corner, Elmers is ideal, it should flake off when you pry off the panel. Failing that, a dot of modelling clay in each corner. Maybe a loop of tape?

I would try white glue or a dot of Walthers Goo — Not Much!

How about that sticky stuff the kids stick posters to the wall with? Haven’t tried it on plastic, but it does the poster job well and comes off the wall cleanly.

I used just a couple of dots of Testors liquid plastic cement on the engine nacelles of my Dornier. After painting, they popped right off with just a little influence with a single edge razor blade, and with no damage. When I re-glued them with the same cement, it dissolved the area previously glued and it just all blended back together. You have to re-apply the glue very carefully so you don’t brush it onto the painted surfaces. I use a 000 paint brush.
