Tell us about your local hobby shop

I’ve been in that one in Denver, one of the best I’ve been in in the last few years. Probably worth the drive some weekends.

Closest decent shop to me in Seattle sucks and is about 50 miles away as well.

Dibbles and Hill Country are in NW San Antonio.
Hobbytown USA is North Central San Antonio (North side of 1604, west of 281 for those familiar with San Antonio)

Which one would accommodate and 18 wheeler at or near by?

The model box in Boerne Texas, just off I-10 in a strip mall. They just opened, so inventory is still small.
Hobbytown USA is next to 1604 (Blanco exit)

My favorite was the Squadron shop in Hazel Park Mi. And second Fav was Bobees in Florida just outside the gate at Pensacola N.A.S.
Before I went into the service the manager at the squadron shop gave me 1/72 scale kits to build for the store display.
After I left the service I lived in Alabama and drove to Pensacola many times.
I built a couple sci fi scratch builds and those stayed in Bobees.
Nowdays I’m building 1/48 scale Jets, mostly right out of the box but I lost control and bought multiples of every Hasegawa weapons kits and some 3D printed special weapons.
Right now I’m working on two great wall Mig-29’s, a Ukrainian 9-13 and an SMT.

Dibbles…geez, I was buying stuff there in the 80s. Glad to know they’re still around!

My LHS is Hangar 19 in Cary, NC. They’ve expanded since I first started going there, so I guess they’re doing well. Quite busy when I stopped in during the holidays, so…good? A bit pricey, and they tend to focus more on gaming than I do, but it’s nice to have a local shop.

Welcome to the forum, thanks for sharing.

I do 1/48 jets as well. I’m looking forward seeing those migs you are working on, send us some photos as you make progress.

And I’d isn’t a loss of control, you are collecting inventory!

I’m in Olympia WA and my local shop is Bigfoot hobbies. They are in the middle of a transition from RC (air and cars) centric to more of a mix of RC cars and plastic models. The owner is a builder so he wants to grow the plastic business.

They have been okay, but very limited inventory (like 30 kits). They are good people and I hope they succeed because, the next closest shop, skyway hobby is over an hour away and closes at 3:00pm so I can’t easily get there.

Skyway has been around since the 60s and has a lot of estate stuff along with new kits, and have decent prices. It’s kind of a hole in the wall place with lots of inventory, accessories and tools/paints and are helpful. The big issue is their hours, tue-sat 10:00-3:00 which makes it really hard to get there.

It’s sad because these used to be at least three other great shops in the Seattle area but they are all gone.

The new MRP paint colors arrives in a few days, the new decals in another week or two and my resolve to complete the repaint in Ukrainian colors is growing.
This is the present condition of the sanding process with 1000 grit wet & dry (wet sanded)

Wow, repainting isn’t something I’ve ever considered, looks like a lot of work! I look forward to seeing the results!

Yeah, I’m a little closer to Skyway, it’s about an hour and a half one way… And Emil is a GREAT GUY…

But it’s the only true model shop in the Puget Sound area… Not only are all the model shops dissappearing, the Model Railroad shops have as well, at least down around Tacoma…

There used to be six…

A sad state of affairs…

Yeah, I remember, West Seattle, American Eagle in Ballard, and South Tacoma, Burien and Wagner’s in Auburn and they were all great! Those were the days.
