Has anyone tackled a Tauro kit form Italy?

I’m currently elbows deep in the Macchi MC.202. So far I find this kit to be sub-par. Everything from the plastic to the directions pale in comparison to many of the other brands I have worked with.

The fit of the kit is horrible and the flashing found on many of the small parts makes it almost impossible to clean them. (there’s more flashing on the part than plastic used for the mold of the given piece.)

I’m going to slug it out and see what happens.

Tauro: that is italian for “over-ambtious old school short run kits” About the same quality as Mach 2… But the reward is a model that few peoples have in their collection.

Well, these kits are found all over ebay, so Im sure quite a few people have them in there stock-pile. I won a kit-lot on ebay about 2 or 3 years ago (all Tauro Macchi,s).

This is my first attempt at this manufacturer. The directions are sooooo bad, I have to guess at some of the fitting. Unreal!

I have this kit in the stash, Tauro has been around for years, but their kits all seem ill fitting and over engineered

I have this kit too. It looks loaded with detail, but just eyeballing the parts it looks like it’s going to be a pain to build. It’s almost like they tried to cram the detail from a 1/24 or 1/32 scale kit into 1/48 scale.

I built this kit a few years ago. It was not a fun kit. In the end , it came out just OK for me but I will never buy another Tauro kit again.

Good luck with the kit, and post it up here when your done! The hasegawa Macchi’s blow this kit outa the water though.

Sometimes I think an ill fitting kit is actually better as anyone can put a Japanese kit together with at least reasonable results, but that? Well it looks like a teat but like it has been said above not many people will have made one of those, I think it’s what would make it worth making.

I have build this kit in the late eighties, still have it and it was my “inspiration” to build a 1:32 scale.

The Tauro kit is not hard to build, it only takes more time to build it to todays standard.

  • It has seperate rudders, flaps etc. , the decals are good!
  • needs a lot of putty at the wing roots and the cowl (gunbay part) is not smooth and needs some major cleaning up.

When you put some effort and time into it , it will turn out into a nice little plane that looks the part.
