Howdy all, any technoids out there have plans or directions on putting a tank on my diaphram compressor? Is this advisable? I’ve got a decent set up with the Passche D-500 , reg, filter but am getting to the point where my brushing sessions warrant a tank.Or is it just better to bite the bullet and get the whole motor tank set up new? Any wisdom is appreciated.

You need 4 things: (1) a tank with two openings (2) a compressor that puts out good pressure (you already have that), (3) misc metal hoses and fittings, and (4) access to welding equipment
It’s really simple and certainly doable. The plain tanks you can buy only have one opening. If you go to a welding shop and explain it they’ll know exactly what you want and could probably help. You at least need another hole drilled in the tank and a fitting of some type welded to it that you could place a pressure regulator on. I don’t know how much it would cost but probably less than a new setup.
I would also weld some type of bracket and stand to the tank. Bracket to bolt on the compressor so it isn’t two separate pieces and stand so it doesn’t fall over.
Automatic shutoff mechanism is another issue. Basically it’s impossible for the tank to fill up beyond the pressure of the compressor anyway so it doesn’t matter if it keeps running in that sense.
It’s a good project but probably easier (oooh I really hate that word in this context [:(!]) just to buy a new setup.

Thanks I beam. I kinda have an idea what I want to do but am fighting over wether I should or not.My D-500 is alright , I’ve moved up in skill with the airbrush and do alot more detail work. Obviously this takes more time than just basecoats. The compressor heats up, so on and so forth.
if noise isn’t a great issue then a commercial compressor from Wal Mart or Lowes only cost about $60 and come with a min 2 gal tank… it’s a bit loud but my wife doesn’t notice it anymore after the first fill up in the evening…
if it is an issue, I would try the monster garage thing… [;)]

when I say a bit loud I don’t mean unbearable… more like an electric handtool (drill or something for example) loud…
I have a “loud” household compressor too and I like it alot. However I read an interesting article about building a box with soundproofing material on the inside (ie pink or blue foam). This apparently cuts the sound by 90%. I might try it just for kicks even though the sound doesn’t bother me.
Ironically I was contemplating how that would work when I replied above… Just would need a little door on the front to get to the knobs and such and it would be set!! I may look into it too. The local car audio shop has the soundproofing stuff and I can build a box myself out of thin (1/4 to 1/2 inch) cabinet birch from Lowes which isn’t that much…
Hey, noise isn’t a prob, besides the D500 I have right now isn’t quiet. I’ve looked into parts and pretty much by the time I get everything I need I’m not that far from a whole new shabang. That sound prooffer sounds good too!!
