Tam's Marder III - question about the Smoke Shell case

So this case, according to the instructions, has NO Bottom, and NO back. Just a top, and the piece that forms 3 sides… then it is mounted so it is away from the Hull…

is this correct ? somehow it does not seem very worthy of holding anything…

crickets

its the 7.62 Pak36(r)

I added a bottom to it… hope that helps.

It actually shouldn’t have a bottom…the rack was modified to enclose the grenades that used to be exposed in the previous style rack and vulnerable to being triggered by small arms fire accidentally…but you still need a way for the smoke to be discharged, so the bottom was left open and the grenades held in a small rack enclosed in the rest of the box. HTH.

ah, so then this is a smoke system for the tank… not something that the crew fires out the barrel or throws?

education gained ! thanks

The allies must said what the heck is that smoke ball over there?

I dunno, Joe, fire a round into it and see what happens

Don’t you mean the KWK36 not the PAK36?

The PAK36 is the 37mm towed Anti-Tank field piece

The KWK36 is 75mm I believe?

Mikey,

He’s got the right designation. The Marder III was originally fitted with captured 76.2mm Russian guns that were re-chambered to take the PaK 40 7.5cm ammunition. These guns were then designated PaK 36(r) indicating their “under new ownership” usage. [;)]

You know the way the germans designate things is well confusing.

Indeed, that is a subject I have no clue about! I look at the Kit box/armor name, and cant even begin to understand! of course sometimes their is a panzer or tiger somewhere in the name…lol.

the box on the kit says “Sd.Kfz.139 7.62cm Pak369r) auf Gw.38(t)”

It could be worse, for example you could be trying to figure out what exactly you are dealing with if someone says Flak 36 or Flak 37! [(-D]

Well there are 2 Flak 37’s the 3.7cm and 8.8cm Flak guns.

Exactly! [(-D] That’s the problem with German designations…you have to be precise…and that’s also why their “official” designations for things are often real mouthfulls to say…never mind try to type! [;)] Of course, it doesn’t help that the kit manufacturers often create their own names and print them on their boxes…then it gets really confusing!
