Anyone built the U.S. Half track [I forget it’s official designation] with the quad anti-aircraft gun by Tamiya? I found a couple on clearance but I haven’t decided If I want it bad enough yet. I just Bought the German 251 [tamiya] half track and the U.S. M-20 armored car [Italeri] , which will keep me busy for some time.
My wife did the regular one when I did the 251. They look to be the same except for the quad guns and she loved it. It’s got pretty good detail and just looks cool any way. I don’t think there were any major problems because I don’t recall her asking for help except on few minnor things like the decals. I would say get one, it looks nice sitting next to a 251.

I beleive it comes with some extra figs to doesn’t it? If so how many?
I can always use some figs. I just bout the U.S. mortar team by tamiya on clearance for about $1. The U.S. [m-16?] halftrack is down to $15. i hate that the half off/1/3 off sale is over now.[:(]
I know the regular ht that she did came with a whole slew of figures, enough to fill up the thing with. They are all still in the spares box though. i think I have about a battalion worth of figures sitting in it since I really never do them up. have them just in case though.If I remember from looking at the box of the quad one it only comes with 2 maybe 3 figs.
If you want I might be able to get a few pics of the white scout car infront of some of our barracks and also the us half track as well, granted they are all on display and are supposed to be in a fresh appearance if you will?
I’ll try to get the pics next time I go on post, should be soon though, it’s hard to shop on the german economy for stuff we want.
You mean there is a white version of the M-20? Cool, i’d love to see that because i was trying to think of some alternate realistic pain schemes to use on it.
I’ve got both the M16 halftrack and the M3A2 halftrack. I like them, but the halftrack experts on the net have been calling for an all-new tooled halftrack. Apparently, the M3A2 was a variant that was not put into production since the war ended. The M16 served through Korea and into Vietnam. The quad .50 turret was even mounted onto standard M35 duece and a halfs and used as gun trucks in Vietnam.
AFV Club makes a Vietnam era gun truck which is the M35A1 with the quad .50 turret.
I know Eduard makes photoetched sets for the various US halftracks. I have all the old sets for the M3 and the new set for the M16.
Tamiya’s M-16 Halftrak come with a couple of figures.A driver and a gunner in the quad.

Negative: The White scout car is a four wheeled, open top vehicle. the drivers compartment, hood, front fenders etc. were common with the halftracks.
Do a search for “White scout car” on Google.
To my knowledge removing the ladders and rear stowage racks are the only major mods needed to back date it to an M3A1.
I could be wrong though.
I am building the Tamiya’s U.S. Half Track, not yet finished with it yet, but here is a pic. of it. This one is the M-16, also working on the M3A2.

You will also have to cut down the side armor on the machine gun ring.

If I remember correctly it is the “wing” that extends behind the ring on the right side of the vehicle that needs to be removed.

built it all(assembly) yesterday!
Oh yeah, I believe(correct me if I am wrong) That Tamiya, used the M2/M3 chassis for the tamiya Mortar Carrier, M3A2, and M16
Correct! Tamiya produced all these kits.
Monogram(?) also produced a halftrack with a dual mount turret in 1/32 scale.
Funny that you should mention the mortar carrier since i found a WWII Tamiya Mortar Crew set on sale as well. I went and picked up the M-16 half track the other day Can’t wait to start on it! I’m already working on the German half track. and finishing up the M-20 and a hummer Avenger. May hands are pretty full and I LOVE IT![:D]
