Tamiya's new 1/35 French LeClerc

Hi! My Fellow Modelers,
Regarding Tamiya’s future release of 1/35 French LeClerc tank, I think that the French tank is really ugly, not to mention its inferior performance to other nation’s tanks. I wish Tamiya to release new 1/35 scale Leopard 2A4 with movable gun instead LeClerc.

Where do u guys figure out new releases???

Usually through websites like this. Some here, at Missing-Lynx, PMMS, or Armorama usually sees it and posts something about it.

so they shouldnt bring out the GI Joe tank Leclerc and bring out another Leopard 2a4??? why another leopard
its good that they bring out new tanks
if they based there kits on performance there would be no kits other than the very best tanks, i like a bit of diversity

Welcome to the forums

Yes, the Leo is such a handsome tank, with that big ridiculous wedge slapped in front of it.

Anyway, you have some evidence that the LeClerc is “inferior” in performance to other Western MBTs? Did you fight a little secret war on the side or something? It’s the newest of them, and many argue that it’s currently the best, not the worst.

He’s been signed up for two years or so, Caveman. It’s just that he’s been waiting all this time for something truly important to say.

Personally I will take what I can get, cause it sound’s like an interesting subject, Im currently working on Trumpeter’s new 38H observation vehicle and though it probably wasnt the best thing around at the time it a real change from the norm as far as armour kits go and if I don’t mess it up it should look great!

oh yeah so he has[:)]
ok
congratulations on finding the Post button neoagnusdei

I personally am not interested in the LeClerc, but welcome any new subject in 1/35 (especially modern and if it is not a German Tiger or another axis vehicle).

Hi Guys,
Regarding performance of LeClerc, do the google search and type “Tank Assessment Survey”. There you can find an article published on Armor July-August 99. Of course, this article could be subjective, yet LeClerc does not seem to be that good.

Here is the direct link to the article.
http://www.ciar.org/ttk/mbt/mbt/mbt.assessment.best-tanks-and-why.pdf

I didn’t read it as “does not seem to be that good.” The tanks surveyed all did about the same. Most of the western tanks had about the same results, which make sense since they are all designed by NATO countries using similar ammo and having similar requirements.

The article doesn’t explain how they rated the tanks and what they used to judge them by. I wouldn’t lend too much credit to this article. It seems very subjective to me. I’m sure the LeClerc is a capable tank, It ahsn’t been tested in battle, but woudl probably hold its own against any ex-Soviet style tank.

Hi All,

Personally I’d rather have the unordinary vehicles. I’d rather see a wider spread of vehicles from different countries. While major variants of vehicles is (are??) a good thing ie M1 with dozer blade, M2 with something cool bolted onto it (wings??), bringing out the Iraq version of an M1 in a new box but only with an additional sprue for the updates interests me little. Leave these to the aftermarket gurus and focus on broadening the range of basic kits. A good example of this is using the OOTB Warrior and bolting Accurate Armour updates onto them.

There are some pretty cool vehicles out there that just aren’t being covered. For example AUSLAV (I know, just modify a LAV kit), Bushmaster, SASR LRPV.

Cheers

I do agree with you on this Shane, but that is not how the model companies see it. To them, it is about the profit. It is much cheaper to update an existing kit by adding a sprue of new parts than it is to make an all new kit. There will always be someone out there to grab up the “new” (updated) kit as well, be it a new modellers or someone who is interested in the updated kit due to current events, or someone who doesn’t want to do the AM and/or scratchbuilding for that version, etc. They can make a lot more money this way, rather than making an all new kit, which can run into 6 digit figures from inception to hobby shop shelves.

I’m curious as to whether the Tamiya LeClerc kit includes the transmission with one forward and five reverse gears .[(-D]

Absolutely. It’s ironic that the “small budget” model manufacturers seem to come up with the most interesting kits / accessories.

Cheers
Shane

If manufacturer based their decisions on real life performance of the machines we may not have sherman models.
There are still many uncovered subjects (T-90, ERC 90, TAM…) but I guess, as I’m kinda new to modeling, we are living in a golden age of modeling and model variety.
Did I mentioned that I will pick up my trumpeter’s Ariete tomorrow?
Tamiya’s Leclerc is definitely in my wish list.

The Ariete is a very nice kit from Trumpeter. I have it and can’t decide if I should build it soon or wait and see if any update sets come out to build the version that was in Iraq. Still hoping for a T-90 or Stryker in plastic.

I haven’t had a chance to pick up the Ariette, but I’ve heard good things. I don’t particularily like the Leclerc, but I do understand that it has quite a speed advantage of the other modern MBTs. Tamiya announced this kit a couple of months ago. I would like to pick it up, but in all likelihood, the astronomical Tamiya prices will keep me away from it.

So what. I was signed up for the site a year or so before I decided to post anything.

You mean like American tanks at Kasserine? [:p]

The French never ran away from the Germans as cravenly as the Americans did at and after Kasserine. They were beaten by superior tactics, just like the Poles, Belgians, Greeks, initially, the Russians, the Americans and the Brits (thank God for the English Channel and the Atlantic Ocean), etc.

Which has what to do with my pointing out that he’s been signed up for two years, so there’s no need to welcome him to the forum?
