Tamiya's M48A3 USMC Vietnam

Here’s my take on the venerable Tamiya kit. AFV Club tracks, stowge items are my own resin cast copies of kit parts.

Tamiya XF-74 is a good match for the Marine Green of that era.

looking real nice “G” You kept it fairly clean, looks good, but no red Vietnam dust or mud ?

Soon, very soon there will be dust…

I’m working on a display of Marine armor WWII to the present. All will have their own small base representing the terrain.

G

I wish I could make my models like that.

Love it! My only critique would be that if the TC and loader are ‘exposed and casual’, the driver would be unbuttoned as well. The gunner never gets any fresh air.

Other than that, great model done up real nicely! Despite the kit’s flaws, I think that basically we’ve all built this at one point… including me.

I blame force of habit! I glued the driver’s hatch shut, THEN decided to include the other two guys.

G

G- Very nice…love it.

Here is a thought [2cnts]… The VN era paints, Army OD and Marine Green, were more semi gloss than flat. The problem is if you gloss up a bit it will get darker in color (looking more like Army OD from VN)

Hope the knee is doing better…age catches up to us all

Rounds Complete!!

Very nice.[Y]

Two thumbs up!

I love M48’s.

Love the gunner in Ray Bans! Great built.

Nice to see you’re getting in some good bench time G! Looking sharp and can’t wait to see the full line-up of gear you’ve got planned, sounds like a neat project. [B]

Seeing this build gave me a flashback to a childhood memory… it’s 1969 or 1970 and I am riding in the family car down I-5 thru Camp Pendleton and seeing the M48s from there on tank trails running alongside the interstate. I still remember waving to the TC and loader and them waving back… cool stuff for a little boy[:)]

Beautiful work G![Y] Whats next?

Thanks All!

Stik I have a project wherein I’m building USMC armor WWII to the present. So far I have WWII, Korea, Vietnam and ODS. Next up is an M1A1 from 2003 or so. Then I’m building small bases for each.

Looking good, nice clean work. I like the loader/gunner with the sunglasses. I was just thinking about adding someone with them to my diorama until I realized it was the rainy season…ha ha.

Would y’all believe I found a German company that makes the correct sprockets for the M48A3. I’m trying to get some, when I do I will hook y’all up if you want them, it’s in the works.

“Soon, very soon there will be dust…”

Adopting this as my modeling mantra.

Very nice job.[Y] I have 2 of these in the stash along with 2 of the Academy M48A5’s. Seeing your build makes me want to grab one out of the pile and dig in!

Wayne,

it’s always good to see a Vietnam-era tank around here! And your looks good, so “fresh outta factory” [:D] Very nice, keep 'em comin!

Paweł

Agentg, your tank looks GREAT!!! [Y] Thanks for bringing this up because I had a good time building one when I was 14 or 15 years old… 25 years ago. [:D]

Thanks for reminding me just how old I am Andy! LOL!

Nice Patton, Wayne. Having just finished mine not too long ago, I’m fondly reminded of this great kit!

What’s a model collection without one of these commanding a shelf?
