Tamiya's 1/48 sherman is a real winner

Ok, i’ve been gone for a while, its been modelrailroad time. LOL Anyway i saw this new tamiya 1/48 scale line and i had to get one. I model O scale which is 1/48 scale also. Thinking it would make a nice flatbed load i got it. Boy what a great little kit, fit is everything you would think from tamiya. THer is one small problem in the back where the cast idler does not completly match up tot eh plastic part, but a small dab of filler took care of it. I really had to do some research to find out how a new tank would have left the factory.
I’m sure there will be a PE set for this, and truth be told, the light covers are a bit over scale, this is a great kit to relax with. Only 20.00 and the detail is great. When you get tired of the super complicated builds, take a breather with this baby. I will post pics by the end of the week after i get some paint on it.
Now i want the stug.

Lion Roar already has a 1/48 scale PE set with turned barrel out for the Tiger tank. I have not looked for a Sherman set since I have not picked up the kit yet.

if your going to put it on the back of a train you would need the transport tracks

I wasn’t aware that Sherman tanks had or needed transport tracks.

nor was i until i looked here again[:I] with all the Tigers going about[:I]
i got a little mixed up [:I][:I][:I][:I][:I]

sorry

Yea, no transport tracks. LOL There is ithe usual see thru sponson area, nothing a little work can;t correct. If you want to see something neat, check out his link to a US army video from 1942 showing a armor division on the move.

Neat stuff. Crossracer, I only mentioned the Tiger since there is already a PE set w/barrel on the market for it. I was implying that perhaps a similar Sherman set may be on the way. Didn’t mean to confuse you.

Also Eduard made a PE set for the old Bandai M4A3 Sherman when Frog/Fuman reissued them in the 90s. I don’t think it would be too hard for them to update the old set and reissue it for the Tamiya Sherman. It was set #28002. I’d grab a couple to finish off the Bandai Sherman, M12 and M30 I have waiting to be built.

finemolds do a metal barrel http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/reviews/48/finemolds/fm_m4.htm

and this company Hauler make PE sets for the Tamiya Sherman
there on the list, Cant direct link them

I just did a “buy it now” for the Tiger PE and barrel set by Lionroar. The seller also had a similar set for the Sherman ($13.99 opening bid, $14.99 Buy It Now price). Shipping is $7, but it is coming from the Far East.

Obviously, I didn’t order it because I don’t have the kit, but there is a Lionroar set out there now.

Armour workshop also makes a nice aluminum barrel for the kit, a drop fit. I may have to get that fret for the Sherman. It’s such a beautiful little kit that I may invest in the PE to gussy it up. I may wait to see PMMS’s review.

Oh, and I got my Sherman for around $15 from greatmodels.

Apparently the barrel for the Tiger I is so beautiful and fits so well that AM is not necessary, but that’s pure second-hand stuff.

PMMS has a review of both the Tiger & Sherman barrel out now…

Doesn’t seem to worth the investment IMHO.

That does not include the Sherman barrel made by Armour Workshop, which looks quite nice. Here it is:

Four bucks wasn’t much of an investment, because I had the Tiger treads on order anyway.

The Finemolds barrels don’t look all that great though, it’s true.
