Greetings all,
Here is Tamiya’s Porsche 911GT in the colors of Taisan Star Card which was built out of the box.
Yes, I took the plunge to use the kit supplied decals.. Like Tamiya fashion, they were thick and a PITA to deal with and the stripping took me the longest to apply.
But once they were applied, they looked really good in my opinion!
Tamiya paints were used and the body was rattle canned. Between the color coats, I placed the rattle can into warm to hot water.. This improves paint atomization, resulting in a smoother, finer, and more even finish with less “orange peel” effect.
Applied a clear coat, wet sanded then poloshed it out. Outside of the decals, it was a fun build!
Thank you so much Chris, definitely much appreciated!
There are a few areas that I didn’t catch until it was to late and I was lazy to go back. I have a second offering of this car but it’ll be done as their sister car, instead of the rear stripes, it’ll have a checkered pattern!
Thank you once again!
Happy Modeling,
Mike
Great job. I did that same kit/car years back. It’s a nice build - and yes, those decals were pretty thick. Really cool looking car, and you just don’t see STP much these days.
Thank you thank you Keav! Yes, definitely a nice build outside of the decals.
The more that I think of it, I may push up the 911GT2 kit up to the top so I can do the checkered sister livery!
Totally agree, you do not see a lot of the STP sponsored cars and this is really a striking color combo!
Happy Modeling,
Mike
I love Tamiya car kits, although I am often disappointed with a curbside or half engine kit. Wish they all had complete engines. Anywho that turned out great!
Same here and I agree too. However, Tamiya did a 95 Jeep Cherokee and a Wrangler that had complete engines along with a Toyota Land Cruiser I believe their Honda s500.
The only reason why I know this because I have em in my stash lol
The way they did the above engines, they are simplified but detailed so not sure why Tamiya doesn’t do a full engine?
Happy Modeling,
Mike
