Anyone have any comments on this kit? Just picked it up from the LHS and it I like the Tamiya Marder III so I thought, what the heck? Do they make indi tracks that small? I think the Wespe was built on a Pz II chassis. Thanks for any info.
Great kit builds up well, with little or no filler. The interior is missing a few minor details and the tool clamps could be replaced with aber or Eduard ones for a better look, but apart from that it is very accurate.
The Wespe had an extended chassis, so you will need more track links than the standard Panzer 2 used. Any of the Fruil, ModelKasten, etc products for the Panzer 2 will fit the Wespe as most come with a fair few spares.
Yes…the Wespe was a ‘modified’ Panzer II. Fruilmodel makes ‘indy’ tracks for the Wespe. The reason I know is that I’m currently building one, just started removing parts off the sprue and cleaning them up. Am planning on using the Fruil’s.

I’ve built the kit and wouldn’t mind building another. Goes together pretty well. Great Tamiya fit. Yeah the tracks aren’t great, but overall a nice build.
The Marder is awesome and I hope Tamiya makes more variations of that model.
Thanks for the comments guys. Heh Tigerman, nice marder III M by the way. Might have to do that one next. Watched Saving Private Ryan again the other day. Looked like a III M and a Marder II. I didn’t realize the vision slits on a tiger I were that big either. Pretty easy to shoot through from a distance I’d say. Also, the commanders hatch looked like it was made from pretty thin metal. Maybe artistic license on the part of the producers.
Thanks. The Marder III M from Private Ryan is what inspired me to get this kit. Never really cared for it before, suddenly one day I liked it. I don’t believe the other was a Marder II, but the Marder III Sd.Kfz. 139, not M version Sd.Kfz. 138.
The Tiger is a converted T-34. This did a pretty good job overall, but a few things they could have done better like the hatch for instance.
I pretty sure the “other” Marder from Private Ryan is a Marder III H, but I’ll have to look again. I’ll post a pic after awhile.
I’d like to build the Tamiya Wespe after I get a few other kits of my bench. Keep us posted with updates on how it goes.
I’m borrowing these from the Saving Private Ryan Online Encyclopedia (my dvd-ROM is down), definitely a Marder III H.

Third edit is a charm right?
anyone build a marder III H kit that you guys know of?
Italeri used to, and there used to be a photoetch conversion for the Italeri 38(t), but they’re both out of production.
I got the Wesp when it was released just for the figures[:D]
Oh its not a Marder 2 its a a modified Swedish Sav m/43
