Tamiya Swordfish Construction

I’m building Tamiya’s 1/48 Swordfish along with the AM Avenger. This is a simple kit, and goes together with little effort. I just wish it wasn’t priced so high. It would probably be a good deal at half the price. Oh, well. The cockpit is done, so I’ll be assembling the airframe soon. I’m going to have the wings extended. I’m also using their PE set for the kit. This is the “wheeled” version. Hope you like it so far, and thanks for the opportunity to share the build with you !

I also added Eduard PE R.A.F. seatbelts, from their older set.

Great job on the interior Pix.
I see you are giving the 262s a break and going to the ‘Allied’ side of the force.
Are you using standard kit markings?

Most Excellent !

Dude you are taking on some serious projects. I may have to stop building for a while and just watch you.

Excellent work on the cockpit. You must be working overtime on these builds. Looking forward to seeing further progress pics. Keep em coming.

sweet!! looks like you could just jump in there and buckle up!! later.

You’re at it again, Pix! [:)] Beautiful interior for the Swordfish!

Tace care,
Frank

Looking real nice Pix.

I know what you mean about Tamiya prices!

Karl

Thanks obiwan, Bossman, Swanny, Rick, saltydog, Frank, & Karl !

obiwan - I’ve got a Hasegawa Jill with Eduard PE that I may add to this build. Seems like I’m on a 3-seater-torpedo-plane kick ! I’ll be using the kit markings, from the Bismark attack.

Swanny - don’t stop building ! I, along with many others on this site, enjoy watching your unique & impressive builds. Please don’t deprive us of your “eye candy !”

Rick - I don’t find either of these kits to be difficult builds. I’ll probably be done within my normal time frame.

Karl - I’m NOT a big fan of Tamiya (HERESY !) In my opinion, they’re overpriced & over rated. They are well engineered & well molded, but I don’t mind filling seams or building complex assemblies. Maybe I just wish they didn’t take so much work out of building a model. But I can understand their point. If a good-looking model can be built by novices, they will sell more kits, and attract more people to the hobby (both of which COULD lower prices, but that doesn’t seem to be an interest of theirs).

Thanks again !

Pix, your work is astonishing [bow][bow] I look at my humble efforts and think[banghead][banghead][censored] ah well as they say practise makes perfect
Keep up the good work you certainly give inpiration / desperation in my case[sigh]
Nick

You sir, are nothing short of amazing. Another fine build [bow]

Pix you are the man. I wish I had half the time that you have to build my ever growing collection of models. And the detail that you put into them is nothing short of amazing. But with three kids, softball games, baseball games and work keep me away from doing anything to my two that I would like to finish now. Again thanx for the great pics.

very nice indeed. I agree with you, Tamiya kits are overpriced. I’ve always wanted to build this kit but its too expensive. Keep up the great work mate.

There’s an amazing amount of detail in there, and your great work really shows it off! I found myself looking at each photo two or three times and still finding new things to see. Just really great work Pix. We all really appreciate you sharing these builds with us. It’s like getting a new copy of FSM every week!

stinger

Another piece of art Pix…

I’ve always wanted to take on the Stringbag…even my wife has wanted me to-- but I could never justify the price…maybe I can win one on ebay for cheap…

Thank you kath, ChrisB, falcon, pingtang, stinger, & Jeeves !

Seems like most of us are in agreement about the price of this kit. Its a shame that Tamiya charges so much. For those of us that build WW II aircraft exclusively, the Stringbag is a unique addition to the collection. I got this one when it was first released for about fifty bucks, with an additional ten for the PE. For that amount of money, you can get a couple of Accurate Miniatures kits.
I am truly humbled by your use of words to describe my work. I just paint & glue, and try to do my best. I owe you all a debt of gratitude. Thank you again so very much. [:I]

Nice work, Pix-are you planning on building a 1/48 Bismarck to go with your Swordfish? It’ll make a nice diorama.

I stand humbled in the presence of greatness! Pix your builds are outstanding! I always have to convince myself that this is a model, not the 1:1. Keep up the great work!

Thanks dannyandre & Duke !

Don’t need to build a Bismark. I can take a period B&W photo, & photoshop the Swordfish into the pic. Extracting the kit, with all the rigging, is difficult, but easier than scratching a 1/48 pocket battleship !

Thanks again. I appreciate the kind words.

pix that is a fantastic start. love the detail.
