Tamiya SU-100

Just about to start a long oop Tamiya SU-100 kit. Can anyone point me in the direction of any decent reference material / photographs of this tank? … I fancy doing a weathered winter camo scheme …

Nick.

one interesting camo scheme i have seen on a su-100 was the whole vehicle was painted white and had little spindly trees painted in green all around the bottom of the super structure with something red writen in russian above that.

Cheers Curtis, could be an interesting dio!

Nick.

I’ve seen this too and must say I don’t understand why they did it. They were better off using the real thing and heavily cammoing it like the Germans did. Sorry, I can’t find it in my refs.

it cought my eye and thats why i still remember it, and that was over a year ago!

Wow that was an old kit. I am suprised you found it. Do you plan to update it or go OOB? Greg.

Well old chap, Since tanxheaven died, Give this a twirl: http://www.thetankmaster.com/ENGLISH/AFV/su100_d.asp Cheerio!

The kit was a gift from a friend in Chicago, he had it for years, built part of the suspension and running gear then put it away. I plan to build it as something Russian, winter camo, well used with slight battle damage, but not enough to put it out of action. Some of the heavy plastic bodywork will be replaced with aluminium sheet in order to replicate damage.

what scheme are you thinking of useing?

Steve, many thanks for the web site, some interesting effects there …

Curtis, not sure about the scheme as yet. As you may have guessed, I’m not a treadhead, but I enjoy building something different from time to time. So, for this particular project, I bend to those modellers who know something about the subject and rely on being pointed in the right direction. Once I have enough information about where and when this type of tank operated, colour schemes etc, I’ll make a decision on how to present it. Many thanks for the posting so far guys, it’s really appreciated.

try that funcky tree scheme

Hi guys, sorry to cut down your forest  BUT the tree sceem was in the winter of 1943/44 on a SU122. …Not on an SU100, these did not come till very later in the war. I have never seen an SU100 in whitewash BTW.

Here’s a link that might help. http://www.battlefield.ru/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=57&Itemid=50&lang=en

Also the SU100’s were used in the desert by Sy/Eg . The French and Brits also captured some during the Canal ocupation.
