Tamiya Sdkfz 7/1 halftrack finished

Hello everyone, ive finally finished my Tamiya 7/1 halftrack. I started this build way back in December, but after running out of supplies it got put on the shelf as I finished up my Stuerer Emil. Today, once I put on some Mahavishnu Orchestra, I was able to motivate myself to get it finished. The whitewash is tamiya weathering poweders toned down with a dull coat, and the mud is also tamiya powders mixed with water. I also made some footprints around the gun platform with the mud. For the built up snow around the road wheels and tracks, I used a cheap product i found at michales called Decoart Snow-Tex. I used a stiff brush to apply it to the wheels and tracks to make it look like built up snow, and i think it turned out well. Heres the pics:

And here is a picture of it with its ‘little brother’ the sdkfz 222. I plan to put the two models in a winter diorama with the crews going over some plans. Ill make a new post in the diorama section once I get some supplies ready.

Any comments or criticism is greatly appreciated! Thanks for looking.

looks absolutly great MG42. i love the snow. your right it has a great effect to it. how much did this Decoart Snow-Tex cost and how much is in there? i wasn’t aware tamiya made weathering powders. and how did you make the bootprints? i am currently working on a Sdkfz 10/4, which is still in the same family, so did you use any AM parts? great work [tup]

Looks really good mg42. The whitewash and snow came out really great. Looking forward to the Dio. -zon

Thanks for the comments. roosterpelo the snow was cheap, mayby 2 or 3 dollars and it comes in a little jar thats a bit smaller than one of those jars that the pharmacy uses for pills. I only used a bit for this tank, so I should have enough for plenty of vehicles. Ill take a picture of it to show the size in a bit, the cameras battery is charging. The bootprints were made by using a flat brush that I had used for weathering. By now the end of it was no longer flat, and had a slight oval shape to it. So I brushed it into my mud mixture and pressed it onto the floor of the vehicle, making prints. I checked the size with the feet of some figures ill be using for the diorama. Tamiya does make weathering powders but they are a bit differnt than MIG pigments or other brand powders. These come in 3 sets of 3 colors each, but I havent been able to find the third set, so I have only used the first 2. Ill get a picture of them as well. And finally, no this kit was built all out of the box, with some small modifications like making a bullet hole or two in the screens around the gun, as well as drilling out the tips of the gun barrels, whick really helps the model look less fake.

Great Job[tup] How did not get the great worn whitewash effect? It looks great.

The worn whitewash effect was acheived by using the white powder from the tamiya weathering set. I used the sponge like side of the applicator ro rub the white powder onto the model, until all the whitewashed areas were covered. Then when I sealed it all with testors dull coat, it faded out the pigments and let more of the gray show through. I have done this same effect on my Sturer emil as well as my sdkfz 222.
