I am building mostly OOB with a Metal Barrel and some scratch.
I must start by saying this build has been helped along with Blatant reference to wbill76 1980 build and also some help from Clay(vonryan) who very kindly posted some figures (crewe) to me.
The kit is bang-on Tamiya standard no flash but with a few ejector pin marks!.
The Ammo bins? are moulded smooth so from Bills build I scratched some bits from foil.
Then it was build the 3.7cm Flak 43 using the Aber metal barrel and muzzle.
And then there were the £*$%^!! road wheels
I gave it all a primer coat grey from a rattle can
Then, Oh yes, Then with my New Air Brush I gave it a coat of dark yellow.

I have to wonder how when at full elevation the ammo clips don’t fall off, I suppose the feed mechanism must grip and hold them in place, any one?.
So this is as far as I have got, I still have the some painting by brush to do and the tools etc, and then the tricky bit of doing the squiggly cammo.
I would welcome your comments, tips,advice before I proceed…cheers…Kenny
Bish, yes it will be Green & Brown, this is my first time with an Air Brush so the squiggly cammo is worrying me a bit but I wiil have plenty of practice first.
Making good progress with this one Kenny, very nice! As for the question on the elevation…I’m not sure if they could quite go that vertical…would have to check the specs to be sure…but there were small guide rails on the ammo tray that I’m sure would help keep stuff in place when the gun was highly elevated and/or near vertical. Looking forward to the camo and finish! [B]
I have done a bit more. I had some ‘Griffon’ tool clamps from a long time ago so I thought I would use some of them. Trouble I have found is the fold lines are too deep and they break, I have been putting a thin line of ‘Gator’ glue which stops that.
I have temporary placed the Back rod on the model, I don’t know what it is or what colour it should be
.
But I do like it Black. any advice, comments. Yes please…cheers
I have painted them Black, then Highlighted with Silver and finished with several washes of Burnt Umber. They will be lightly weathered with mud and dust…cheers…Kenny
Ye, of course, isn’t there a box at the back of the compartment for the barrels. I forgot about that. In that case, you may well be right, its about the right size. As for colour, i have found some photo’s of plain DY vehicles and the tube is the same colour. But theres no referance to what it is.
This is really looking sharp [Y] Nice work with the ammo bins and shell basket ! What did you use to make the pattern in the foil with? Your clamps look really nice also, something I have yet to get even half as good as yours look. These are cool looking vehicles and yours is coming right along. Look forward to the squiggly.
Nice job on the clamps Kenny, they can be a little bit of a challenge but you’ve got them down! No idea what that tube is for…it isn’t any kind of “tool” as near as I can tell so it being a holder of some sort (probably spare radio aerials) is the most likely answer.
I have had some household chores to do which have taken longer than I thought, as a consequence I have lost some motivation.
So to try and kick start myself I have been making some bits and pieces…
First I made some mugs
Then I made some buckets/pail’s
And some Ammunitioun cases
Rather annoying, but the brass Ammo I will be using is oversize for the cases, I checked for size and opened up the holes in the case a little bit but the two ribs at the end of the casing are far too large; so I will have to reduce the size of those to fit.
Mug,bucket and cases will go on to this model, the rest will go for spares.
Sorry I am taking so long to finish this model but I will get there…cheers…kenny
You’ve making steady progress with this one Kenny, that’s what counts! Nice job on those ammo boxes. You’re correct about the clips, they were assembled by the loader crew and fed into the gun unlike say a Flak 38 2.0cm where the ammo would come already in the clips. [B]
