I am looking for a suitable primer for white metal ship airbrushng that is thin like Tamiya Fine Surface Primer that won’t conceal details. Does that come in air brushable bottles, or just spray cans? I’ve seen “Tamiya Liquid Surface Primer Grey or White” listed for sale, but I am not familiar with it. Any help/advice would be appreciated.
Gunze Mr. Surfacer 1200 or 1500 in a jar. Or, decant your Tamiya fine primer from the can.
thanks for the good advice-I think Sprue Brothers stocks that line, so I’ll look into it.
Forgot to add in case you don’t know this: Buy Gunze’s Mr. Leveling thinner for the surfacer. Use nothing else to thin it with. You can use any lacquer thinner to clean it though.
Gunze primers also come in spray cans. It’s good stuff.

Tamiya’s bottled LSP is very similar to the finer grade Mr Surfacer. It’s ostensibly lacquer based but can also be thinned (to an extent), smoothed and cleaned up with denatured alcohol. Unlike Mr Surfacer, it doesn’t respond to Isopropyl.
It dries somewhat more porous and slightly softer than Mr Surfacer, but sands very nicely.
