This popped up in my Facebook feed this morning. Looks like a new P-38 is coming in 1/48. The wife nixed a quick trip to Tokyo for the reveal on this new release that is slated for 25 July.
I would stand in line for a Tamiya P-38 !!!
[:P]
And I would love for it to be Marge
Cool! I wonder which variant it will be? Think Tamiya will do a F/G type and in the Yamamoto mission markings?
Let’s hope it really is a P-38. A modern version is long overdue.
Word on the street is that it’s a F/G/H. I would have thought it would be a L or J.
Being the oddball modeler I am, I’d like an M night fighter. I love the gloss black paint scheme, little radar pod and the humbacked RIO station.
Oh I hope so. I have done enough L variants in NMF.
I’ll believe that tamiya makes this airplane when pigs fly.
I’d love to build a droop-snoot version.

It is officially announced! P-38F/G Lightning.
Can they just go ahead and send a couple of these to my address in Katy, Texas?
Very nice !!! What does everyone think, about $75.00 ? It a big aircraft, but not as big as the Tomcat
Thats about what their Betty was going for… Most of their other propellor twins cost less.
Would love to see a set of decals for Rex Barber’s bird.
Those are the markings on the box art.
I’m buying 3 or 4, I have plans already!
And for anyone wondering and H model can be made with it, there was no external differences between F/G/H models.
Here’s a few additional pictures from the kit

Great the Revell Monogram one I built was a huge disappointment I look forward to this being released.
What model was Richard Bong’s Marge, did he actually fly Marge in combat,or was that just a promotional bird.
Marge was an L I believe. Possibly a late J, but definitely the type with the later designed chin scoops area. But Bong was also one of the 5th AF pilots who helped introduce the P-38 into combat in the SWPA with the early model as well.
Marge was a J model
