Tamiya Me262A-2a - What a kit!!!

So I’ve been working on the Tamiya 1/48 Me262A-2a kit with the Eduard PE set and I have to say that I am really impressed with the engineering that went into this kit. The fit and finish so far has been unbelievable and I think a lot has to do with the fact that this kit was originally engineered to be a clear kit.

All of the sub assemblies went together like a dream. I did make one mistake in using the wrong grey on most of the interior, thanks to the way Tamiya calls out colors, but other than that the Eduard PE set really lends to some really impressive results…

I’ll have a few more pictures later, but the fit on the wing root and landing gear is just as impressive. The best part is the way they locate both halves together. I will try to get some more pictures posted in the next day or two before I start painting. Enjoy!

Wow sounds like a great kit might have to get one though id like it to be 1/32 scale myself. Looks great by the way.

Well get the 1/32 Trump 262. great kit for the price.

Great looking build nice painting. I am a big fan of the Tamiya kit got three of them.

Wow John great job so far, the front office looks awesome, although I do have one question and two bits of feedback for you.

First of all how did you achieve the wiring on the circuit boxes in the gun bay it looks very realistic as does the rest of your wiring as well.

Feedback, with the gun bay and cockpit looking so great you might want to think about hollowing out the cannon barrels and adding some of your nifty wiring to the back of the instrument panel.

Cheers

Thanks for the comments and feedback! I wish I could take credit for the wiring but that is all part of the Eduard PE set. They fantastic! As for doing the back of the instrument panel, I am not sure that will be seen once everything is constructed. The cannon or gun bays have two covers that can be installed one with them open and one closed. I am hoping to be able to sue the closed cover and then lift it off to show off the inside. As for the cannon barrel, I thought about that too but it is buried once it is installed so while I could do it, I couldn’t show it off.

What I did do, is go and order the clear kit, that one I could have some fun with…

Nice looking start.

Agreed, Ross, it’s a gorgeous kit! I bought several.

Here’s my first:

rossjr… nice progress. I picked this up not too long ago and have been looking forward to building it… a little more so now.

I just had the same experience with Tamiya’s new He 162 kit – it’s really nicely detailed, and it just fell together. I’ll review it in the upcoming November jumbo issue.

A Jumbo Issue ??? Can’t wait to have that. Is it something that comes back each year? And what is added? Picture galleries or reviews or how to articles, …?

The November issue is always our annual jumbo issue, and this year it has an “aircraft special” theme. It has twice as many feature articles and an expanded gallery. We’re just finishing it up at FSM HQ as I write this, and there’s lots of good stuff in it!

Wow! What a great kit, I even went out and purchased the clear edition to build later… I finally finished her and it seemed such a shame to button it up. Enjoy the pictures!

Very nicely done Ross. That camo is nice… very sublte. A little shiny for my tatse but the build looks great.

Very nice! Love the lines on the 262.

Looks GREAT !!!

I know what you mean but I always seem to get a little shine with the MM RLM colors, so I went with a semi-gloss finish this time instead of the my usual flat.
