Tamiya Matilda II - Good/Bad????

Hi all,

I am basically an aircraft modeler but thought it might be fun do a tank as one my builds for j.s. harrison’s Nth Africa GB later this year.
Can anybody here who has built it let me know just how good or bad the Tamiya Matilda II kit is? I know it’s an old kit so it’s not going to be perfect, but I want to know if it builds up ok.

Thanks
Darren

I built one and liked it, no major problems. Went together well.

I’d say it is a very good kit even without considering it’s age. I built mine more than 15 years ago and is still one of my fav.

It was one of the first kits I built and I think its a good kit like much of Tamiyas stuff (I think they have good stuff)

Welcome to the Darkside of modelling Darren.

It depends on how many rivets you want to count on your first AFV.The Matilda is a reasonably good kit, and still stands up well. Tracks are a bit iffy, and basic detail is a little chunky compared to today’s standards of kits, but still worth a look at, and looks a treat when all is said and done.

It also builds up cleanly, no major problems. One thing I’d caution you about is make sure you paint the roadwheels on the bottom…they look like they are all concealed by the side skirts but they show through on the other side! ( I of course, found this out the hard way the first time I built one). [:D]

I built one a long-time-ago. It is not a BAD kit, but not a GREAT kit either. It does show it’s age though. If you looking to build an accurate Matilda forget it.

One of the weirdest things about the kit I thought was the side armor covering the roadwheels. It has little knobs (spelling?) that fit on top of the tread and when I moved mine they fell off and sometimes I had a little trouble getting them back on.
