Tamiya M113A2 APC

I was interested in modeling Tamiya’s M113A2 APC, but have a few questions for anyone who already built it.

  • Does it have interior details suitable for leaving it open without any aftermarket or scratchbuilt parts?

  • Does it have any decal markings from Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation Enduring Freedom? If not, then from what conflicts?

Thanks!!!

There is no interior to the kit. The markings are for an M113A3 used in OIF and an M113A2 used in Kosovo. The kit boxart represents an M113A3, but the kit inside builds cosmetically into an M113A3. You can also build an M113A2 from what’s inside the box.

[:D] hi, i built the the m113a2 from Academy ,i left the top of and the ramp down so that you will be abel to see into it. i belive the marking mine are from kosvo but im not sure.and i have lots of parts left over from the kit. have fun[:D]

the Tamiya kit has no guts, but the Revell kit does. I think that you could easily kit bash the two to get what you want.

If your modeling an M113 you can’t go wrong w/ the Academy kits probably the best on the market.

The new tamiya kit combinded(kit bashed) with the Academy and you got a winner. Happy Modeling! Stephen

The only benefit you get with the Tamiya kit is the added stowage and the OIF decals. Other than that, the kit is still the old tamiya molds with soft detail and you do not get the interior. You can get the stowage and more with the new Tamiya Modern Accessory set and add them to the Academy kit. The Academy kit is still the best M113 on the market.

No interior in the Tamiya kit? Thanks for the info… that’s a ‘no buy’ for me! Also, didn’t the M113A3 have a steering bar rather than laterals? external feul tanks, kevlar spall liners?.. If I’m remembering 113’s correctly here.

Help me out here Rob.

You got it. Externally, the Tamiya looks like and A3, but it is actually an A2 with extra cosmetics to look like an A3. You would have to add the above details to the Academy to make it into an A3 as well. Academy comes with external fuel tanks though.

I* agrtee that the model is done well but i can see that the author never been involved in a campaigne one M133 full of all that stuff make thit one camel for an arab merchant, and also the portable pic nic frigew red more than funny , appera that sodier goes at a pic nic, is also in rela dangerous because can be make the Tank targetted , in real few back sack and some few more item are on the veichle like that we are going to sell and merchandize at the market , and more than at one desert battle appera to be at one PRIDE PARADE items on are good but limited

Wow, just shy of 8 years from initial post to response.

Other than the inside color fo the ramp, the load out of the M113A3 looks like what I’ve come to expect from those gypsy wagons.

Somebody spent a LOT of time sifting thru years of post before making their first post on here…[;)]

And yes, a 113 does not look right if it is not loaded down like some 1800s pioneer covered wagon…[t$t]

Good place for a first post then ;)! The more amazing thing is that Verlinden is offering an interior for the Academy 113:http://www.verlindenonline.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=2182
