tamiya lancaster appeal !!

twice a week i have my friends 9y/o autistic son round to mine for tea and modelling. lately, after seeing an episode of “the world at war”, he’s asked if we could build a lancaster to hang from the ceiling with his catalina. problem is the cost of a tamiya lanc- the only 48th kit, as i’m sure you all know. i’ve thought about one of the printed card kits in 1/50th but i can’t plunge mould canopies and turrets, etc. so i thought i’d ask the readers of fsm - has anyone got an old lanc, started/abandoned/damaged/unloved/parts missing, etc. that they would part with for a very modest sum? as it’ll be “in flight”, props & u/c aren’t necessary, i’m sure i could work around other missing/broken parts (the catalina was rescued from my mates garage and was a sorry state!) a BI/BIII is the favourite but anything would be considered! all offers greatfully received, let me know how much you’re after and what sort of state it’s in…cheers- steve. p.s. i’ll send you a picture of the happy owner with his new joy :slight_smile:

Have you considered a 1/72 scale Lanc? …on second though those Hasegawa 72 scale kits can be pricey too I guess.

I have an Airfix 1/72 scale Lancaster B1 which I probably will never build. I would be glad to give it to you for your son. If you would like to send me an email at gdking@metrocast.net. It is in storage but it won’t take long to find it.

skater-x;

You are trying to keep the Lanc in scale with the PBY, correct?

thanks for the responses, lads. the catalina is 1/48, as is his yak 3, la-7 and the old koster ju88g which he’s getting for his birthday -it’ll give me a reason to finish it!- hence the desire for the tam lanc. i’m very touched by the offer of the airfix lanc, i’ll bear it in mind if the search for a big one bears no fruit. thanks again for the interest- steve (skater-x)

I wish I could help you out, but mine are already built. I did find this one on eBay that right now is under $45 with shipping with no bids and just over a day left. It says they’ll ship international. Here’s the link to the Lanc [:D]

thanks for that john, i’m afraid that i missed it because i haven’t been on here for a few days…that was a really good price for a new one as well. because cash is short, i had a built/ partly built/ damaged one in mind; i figured that someone somewhere must have one that the cat knocked off the shelf and broke, so me and the youngster could fix it up and restore it. the hunt is still on! thanks again- s.

I have one that I can help you out with. I won two in a package deal at last month’s IPMS chapter’s “distressed kit auction”, and will only be building one. Only problem is no clear parts,instructions, or decals. If you can work around these issues, hit me up with a PM to work on price.

wahey!!! instructions/decals aren’t an issue, clear parts i’ll sort something out (i think theres a vac form set…or i’ll email tamiya as a last resort)…i’m afraid i don’t understand the last bit of your message, though, i don’t know what a PM is…sorry! i’ll look on here again before the end of the weekend so hopefully we’ll make a plan cheers- s

Private Message… I think it is called ‘start a conversation’. Where are you located?

I have the instructions I can scan and email to you. PM your e-mail address to me and I can send them to you

There’s one listed today on Ebay which is described as complete less some decals, starting bid is $19.95.

i’ll have a look now :slight_smile:
