Tamiya JS-3

Is it a good kit (worth picking up)? What PE/AM sets are the best to use with it? any outstanding errors I should worry about?

Thanks for any help.

Chris,

It’s a very good kit. There are AM barrels and an Eduard PE set as well as Fruil tracks.

Thanks Rob, That’s good news I guess I’ll pick one up.

Chris,

Definitely replace the tracks with something else if possible, so you can replicate the sag, though I’ve seen some pics with little sag.

Well, I’ve just discovered that Trumpeter also makes a JS-3 and now I’m confused as to which to buy? I’m assuming the Tamiya kit is superior but considering price, which is better value?

Thanks for any help,

Chris,

I have just finished one a couple of months ago. It’s a beautiful kit and I can say accurate although I do not have much reference to base it on. I relied mostly on a russian (czech?) site which has a good walkaround section of the JS-3. Because of its simple design, I did not see a need for PEs although it could really use a metal barrel

Thanks Constructor, I’m starting to lean towards the Trumpeter kit.

Go for the Trumpter kit. I’ve built both and the Tamiya kit of the JS3 sits to low. I had to reposition the roadwheel arms. modelbob@hotmail.com

Overall qualtiy and engineering is better on the Tamiya kit, but the Trumpeter kit is a JS-3M, and slightly more accurate.
