Tamiya has comp in 1/48

well, I thought tamiya was on there own. but I keep seeing one or two kits prodced by different companies. But I think until now Tamiya has had a monopoly on that scale.

I almost though about getting one[:0] almost[;)]

Yes, they are very nice looking indeed and could compete against Tamiya, but I doubt they could as prolific. Isn’t that one reason so many switched to Dragon in 1/35? Still competition is good for the consumer.

I love how the barrel is molded one piece so there’s no seam line. These look like truly superb kits, the kind that really deserve the snap links from WWII Productions or Atelier.

I already have the Tamiya early kit, but I’m going to get the late Tiger from Skybow, with its superb zimmerit molding – it’s a God-send!

They apparently have plans to make a Firefly too. I’m not holding my breath, though, as these Tiger kits have taken forever to release, so I expect to see another Skybow 48th vehicle … whenever.

I did not like 1/48 armor at the start, but I am going to have to think about geting one of those Tigers heck I like it just because the box is nice looking.

I’ve liked the 1/48 stuff since Tamiya brought it out but I think thats enough with the Tigers already lets see some variety already!

Same here. I am not too fond of the whole 1/48 thing. But eventually I think 1/48 will get my curiosity.

I decided to order Tamiya’s 1/48 Sherman. The curiousity got to me. However, I hope 1/35 lives forever.

A classic example of the phrase “Follow the leader.”

Good-looking stuff, and I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot more from a variety of manufacturers.
I just picked up another Tamiya 1/48 Sherman, complete with PE! It was a special item on sale at the Shizuoka Hobby Show.

I’ve got some pix of some AMAZING dioramas integrating aircraft and armor, too.

Personally I do like the new 1/48 scale armour and have posted a lot of new stuff in our Group: BTL. Yet, I must absolutely and totally disagree speaking about the Tamiya kits. These are toys. As I’ve made a review on the SKYBOW kits, I can honestly say that there’s no contest between Tamiya and SKYBOW as the latter kits are absolutely superior in every aspect beside the tracks - and those can be replaced with the new tracks from WW2 Productions, which we posted in our Group.

Yet, there are a lot of great kits in the pipeline coming from SKYBOW in Taiwan in the next month. Stay tuned!

Hi, Frank!
Yes, the Skybow stuff is VERY cool (zimmerit!!), but I think it’s a bit unfair to call the Tamiya stuff “toys.”
Then again, there are people who call all models toys!

My philosophy in modelling is, “the more, the merrier!”

Looks like we’re getting more!

The Skybow Tigers look great. May have to get a couple.

Regards, Rick

Yepp! Guess you’re right, but it’s my personal opinion. Maybe Tamiya will change their praxis having die-cast hulls as this is a disadvantage for the aftermarket industry.

Keep them coming!
