Tamiya Glue

Hi everyone,
I just purchased a bottle of the square glass bottle of Tamiya glue. I really like it and the brush that comes with it is great. My only problem is the smell of the glue. When I use it the whole family can smell it around the house. Any advise? I have used many different glues and this works the best, but the very strong smell is a deal breaker. I am looking for a way to use the glue without the smell or an alternative glue that works as well.
Thanks for any help!

I use Zap for super glue and Testors liquid glue in the black bottle with the long metal tube for plastic. No big issues with oder and both work well. Greg

The Tamiya Super Thin cement is good to use. An alternative (what I do) is to use up what you have and pour Testors cement into the bottle. The thin brush applicator is terriffic – I don’t mind using Testors liquid cement.

And then there’s always the garage!

As compared with Testors, I prefer the Ambriod products the local hobby store has or Hobby Lobby.

Since I am sensative to solvent odors myself, I use both the Testors and Ambriod (Testors in the tube, Ambriod as a liquid) non-toxic cements that have a citrus odor to them.

When using the non-toxic type cement, I “spot glue” the subject with Loctite brushible super-glue (which I get at Wal-Mart) dabbing it at stratigic points, and that holds the part(s) together until the non-toxic cement sets up, since it has a longer setting time then the regular.

Then I let the assembly set over night.

The added advantage is that since the non-toxic cement’s solvent is less active, you can wipe any excess off the model’s surface after completing the assembly and no harm is done to a nice finish.

At least this works for me.

I find that the Testors liquid glue smells the worst of them all. Not much you can do other than using it outside, in the basement, or in a closed off room where you can open the window. Or you can use some sort of applicator.

i use Tenax-7R–works great-- you gotta supply your own brush, which i would do anyway,-- no odor and no brush clean up-- it just seems to evaporate!-- i love this stuff[:D]-- treadwell
