On top of my Tamiya Flat Clear Spray Can says that —>“Do not spray on decal.” But I wanted the Tamiya flat clear to be my last coat of sealing of the decals and knocking back the gloss sheen underneath the decals. So, what do I do now? Can I still use it?
Nike,
I’m not sure why they say you can’t use the TS-80 directly on decals. I bet you could if you used light, misting coats. However, you’ll get a better finish if you shoot a coat of gloss clear on top of your decals before you shoot the flat. The extra coat of gloss will help the decals blend with the surface better, plus there shouldn’t be any problem using the TS-80 on gloss coated decals.

Hey Jeff I’m in a similar situation. What clear gloss would you recommend to use first. Before the TS80? Cheers
I’m told that the Tamiya TS is “Hotter” than most which may affect the decals. My finish flat coat for decades has been MM Flat Laquer # 1960 green rings on label, without any problems. You must always “Mist” on the first coat and let dry. Then you can go heavier on the next coat. By drying I usually wait the next day just for safety.
