Hey guys. Did I miss something. I searched the forums for info on tamiya grey fine primer but did not get the answer Im looking for. After research I have decided that what I want to use…maybe because of all the hype about it. Even FSM editors use it. Anyhow, I have searched squadron, tower hobbies…etc. (excuse my caps for names) No one has it in stock. What happened. I see Mr. Surfacer 1200, thats a maybe, but so is walmart. Thanks for any info.
The owner of my LHS says he can’t get it from his distributer, reason unknown.
He speculates it’s an EPA issue but doesn’t know for sure. Other posts have said it’s unavailable all over the US, haven’t seen any comments from the world at large.
Too bad…it’s a great product. I’m ordering some Alclad primer and Mr. Surfacer from Sprue Bros. to use until, or in place of Tamiya. Some on this forum like Duplicolor automotive primers, which I’m also going to try.

I can only add my similar experience with trying to find this recently. After reading Aaron Skinner’s article in the Feb 2011 issue, I checked multiple hobby stores in Oklahoma as well as many online stores. Nobody seems to have it in stock or expects to receive it in the near future.
LHS store owner here, also said it was an EPA issue. I am really hoping that if in fact the EPA has gotten involved they dont change it. I really love their primer. I have 1 can left and I have been cherry picking which kits to use it on.
On a side note, I have never used the Mr Surfacer. It is a good substitue?

This is only a guess but… it has to do with the labeling, if you have ever used it- I have a can in front of me- you will note that the only thing in English is the front labeling. Everything else, including the warnings, are in Japanese. I have heard of other products being banned for import because of the same issue and can only assume thats the problem.
As additional support for this- if you have a bottle of Tamiya’s Liquid Surface Primer notice the warnings are in English- hence no issue.
Wondering if it is an American issue, most hobby store in Canada still have plenty on the shelves. Guess I should stock up, just in case. I use it all the time and love it.
My local shop owner said that it was delayed due to relabeling in order to be in compliance with a California law.
Thanks for the replies and info guys. [:)]
