Tamiya Fi 156C Fieseler Storch

Hello all. Just thought I’d share some pics of the Storch I started at Easter time. I just moved recently so the progress has been slow going so bear with me on the updates.

Looking good Marmaduke, Don’t worry about the progress. Slow and steady is not a bad thing.

And… thanks for sharing!

I’ll be keeping tab of your progress.I have a kit lurking in the darkness of my stash cabinet itching to be started. I can’t decide whether to go OOB or PEs.

Slow and steady progress pays off in the end.[;)]

Looks good so far. Is that a kit supplied engine?

Sweet. Saw a real one at an Armed Forces Day display 20+ years ago. It was an amazing aircraft.

Thank you.

Yes it is the kit supplied engine as is everything else. I’m building this one straight OOB.

Great looking build so far.

This is definitely a kit on my wish list - didn’t realise how detailed it was!

Just a question - how do you intend on masking the canopy? Is it possible to mask first then install?

Looking forward to updates.

Chris.

Verrry nice. Take your time to build it and it will be fantastic. Too many otherwise great builds are ruined by rushing. I was once told that a good model takes two to six weeks to get it right.

Are the panel gauges kit or after-market decals? If not, PLEASE do tell about your technique…

cml: Yes it is possible to mask first using the kit supplied mask set. My front windscreen is not glued in place yet and I plan on doing the masks next. The side windows however are actually molded to the side fuselage panels which is something I’ve never seen on a kit.

Hans: The instrument panel is a kit supplied decal applied using micro set/micro sol.

Thanks for looking!

Chris

I’ve never seen windows molded to the fuselage either. I guess that could be good. Wouldn’t have to worry about them fogging up.

I agree - i’ve never seen/heard of clear parts being molded to standard styrene before. Very interesting.

After seeing the amount of detail, i think it’s one that will have to join my stash.

Chris.

Looking good…I really like the exhaust, you captured the look perfectly.

This kit is the first one I’ve seen with the clear/colored plastic molded together myself. I read about this feature a while back. After I saw a Storch flight demo at a museum in central Florida, I bought the kit. This is the area we are talking about.

Marmaduke - a great kit but agree that taking your time is mandatory. I caused my self some fit problems with the lower section of the fuselage, had to do a little corrective surgery on mine. Which camo scheme are you going for?

(Pics from my build, if they are of any use to you: http://s1012.photobucket.com/albums/af250/VanceCrozier/Fi156%20Storch/#!cpZZ2QQtppZZ28)

Vance: Great looking build, thanks for sharing the pics. I see you glued the slats on before paint…I was wondering whether I should glue them on before or after. I think I’ll glue them on before seeing as how yours turned out great. I too will be doing the flaps down look…I always like when a model has that option. As for my paint scheme, I will be doing the Mussolini rescue plane camo scheme which I think is “C” in the directions.

Happy modeling!

Chris

Slats before painting - yep, there is enough space there between the slats & wing that I figured I could still airbrush it well enough. I did manage to break a couple of the attachment points before the end of the process though. As long as you’re careful it’ll work.

This is perfect timing I just got this kit as a gift, the build looks awesome so far Vance !

Sorry for the lack of updates fellas…I’ve been sidetracked by my 1/350 Hornet from Trumpeter. I hope to get some work done on the Storch this weekend. Stay tuned!

I built their 1/700 offering of the Hornet a few months ago. It had some really good detail to be that small. I bet their 1/350 offering is just loaded.
